Question on night mode LED

Hi,
Don't post here often because everything has been working flawlessly for about a year now. :)

My question is on the LED moonlight. Mine doesn't seem to be working anymore. Night mode works correctly and shuts the pumps down to the low setting and then back to full power when the lights come on but the LED doesn't light. I noticed some salt creep on the top that was covering what is probably a photocell which I cleaned off but still no LED. Both the night mode and moon light lights are green on the 7095. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ken

It sounds like the LED shorted out, it can be replaced but it needs to be sent in. I would need some time to arrange for a spare LED as this isn't a standard spare part. I could probably have it in a few weeks.

This happened to me once on a near new unit. I depowered and repowered and it worked fine ever since. Try that before sending it in. I dont know what this would resolve, but it worked for me.

Unfortunately the power cycle did not work. I'm not really to crazy about the idea of disconnecting the controller for days. I can splice wires and am okay with a soldering iron. Is there more to it than that?

Ken

wait!!! Perhaps I didnt clearly say what I meant. disconnect the power supply (pull the plug) for about 20 seconds, and then plug it back in. That worked for me. Dont cut anything!

The pumps work fine without a controller, replacing the photocell LED involves opening the controller and unsoldering the old assembly and installing a new one, it takes 3 days to send something from CO- TX and a day or 2 to do the repair and then 3 days back, probably 9-10 turnaround counting a weekend. I would ask that you not send it in until I get the part in, I am going to call in a few minutes to request some.

Do you think you can solder and unsolder 4 very small wires? Normally we do not send them to people, they must return it for repair.

I can do it. Spent 4 yrs of my life learning to be an Electrical Engineer. You'll notice I don't do it for a living though. Who does what they went to school for anyway? :) I will take responsibilty if I mess it up.

My moonlight works again! Thanks a bunch Roger for the quick ship of the moonlight. I got it quicker than expected. I mounted it higher this time so there is no chance of water getting on it. Are they supposed to be waterproof?

Thanks again,
Ken

Yes, but from experience I think water resistant is the more appropriate designation.

where does the water get in - maybe, as a precaution, I will run a tiny bead of silicone around mine

It can enter around the cord. The only cases I have seen of a water damaged transformer were from Hurricane Katrina, we saw several that had been under water for days. That is kind of an extreme case, otherwise I would not worry about it.
