Question on WLAN/LAN capabilities

Hi folks... help me clear a little confusion. Per your web site on the Plus II Starter:

"WLAN and LAN capabilities allowing global access to the system via internet access"

  • Does this mean that I can connect the contoller to a broadband connection and directly access the unit remotely via a PC browser?
  • OR, do I connect it to the internet via a serial port cable comnnected to a PC?
  • If it's the latter, does the PC have to run any software to allow the access?

thanks!

You can connect ProfiLux directly to your router (with WLAN or LAN interface) and integrate it in your local home network
OR
you can connect ProfiLux via USB or RS232 directly to a PC.

In any case you have to use our program ProfiLuxControl
(available here:
http://www.ghl-kl.de/Produkte/Aquaristik/Download/ProfiLuxControl_II_V4010.exe
- can be started in demo mode)
You can access the ProfiLux in your local home network from "outside" (if your router supports port forwarding) if your remote PC has ProfiLuxControl.

A webserver for direct access via browser is not available yet. But will come.

Thanks for all the replies! I just sent an e-mail to Todd @ Cherry Corals with a request to add me to the group package deal. I'm fortunate that I live about 10 minutes away.... the controller looks great.... wasn't even on my radar for purchase until I saw it on demo at his place.

This should be fun!

GHL profilux is only just getting its name known in North America and there are people missing out due to just not knowing its existance.

So we are changing all that!

The marketing wheels are turning fast now so people just like yourself dont miss out on this great controller. You will see the GHL name pretty much everywhere that is relevant soon.

We also have an introduce a friend incentive running, so if you know anyone who is looking for a controller and they purchase you can earn yourself some $$ off your accessories.

yer sorry, There is one single$599 left with the 6 way digital bar and the float switch etc! Grab it if I were you!

Thanks. I guess I meant native mac support rather than running in wine. I could always run it in parallels too if I have to but I'd rather not. I'm guessing a java or cocoa port is out of the question.

ProfiLux control is windows based, but as you can see many people run it very successfully without issue on Mac and there is a growing following of users also.

Does anyone know of a resource that provides some insight on how to accomplish this? A summary, a site, a thread, manual, chalk drawing... anything? thx!

At home I have DSL (ATT/YAhoo) coming in to a Speadstream modem. It goes to a NetGear wireless modem/router. We have a few desktop PCs hardwired (Ethernet) to the router.

At work, I have a Dell laptop with the Control software running on a flsh drive. The Network has a typical corporate firewall scenario. Does that help?

I do not have the wlan or lan card in the ProfiLux. I thought I didn't need it....

The wireless router is a WGT 624 v3.... 108 mbp.
