Question on WLAN/LAN capabilities

All profiLux have the capability for internet hook up with the addition of a WLAN or LAN card this is an accessory hence the word "capability"

You require just like any other controller this accessory for this function.

Hope that helps

I have the LAN card but have not configured it yet. Right now I'm just connecting via RS232. But soon I will try to get the LAN functioning so that I can access the profilux from elsewhere.

Is there a basic guide for how to set this up? I have cable internet so I think my IP address changes alot. How do you know the IP to connect to in that case?

I'm very computer literate but networking has always been an awckward subject for me :D

Thanks,
Ryan

The LAN is the simplest you can use the auto IP address find built into the software.

I have zero IT knowledge and it took me two minutes. 1.30 mins fitting the card :)

So, to be clear, what does Starter system provide by adding the LAN card -- without adding anything else?

And today, how is that functionality performed -- web browser, Control software, or with other software ?

Adding LAN gives you access to your ProfiLux via your home network through your router so you can control your profiLux on any home computer that is connected to the network and that has ProfiLux control installed

LAN will also allow you global access via the internet through any computer that has ProfiLux control installed

Web Browser is being launched soon also

somebody mentinoned that only 1 connection to the profilux at a time is possible. Is this true?

I have a laptop permenenatly installed next to my profilux that I plan to run Profiluxcontrol 24/7.

Can I leave it connected to the laptop and still access remotely with another instance of ProfiluxControl?

thats unfortunate. are there any plans to address that? to me it seems like pain to have to deal with that. basically if I forget to exit profiluxcontrol before leaving the house, then I am locked out of my profilux.

Only Matthias can answer that, this is no different than any other controller out there, but I think this could be addressed with the up coming web server option, but again Matthias can confirm this

Will the upcoming web server option be its own separate card? Will the controller need a Lan or Wan card also or will it replace it?

You will need a LAN or WLAN card, just like other controllers that require some sort of optional ethernet card

Thanks for the (fast) response!

James

I think he already said Matthias will be giving us more info about that shortly.

a little bit of patience will go a long way with these guys

I'm patient... just trying to understand what to expect from the upcoming options that they reference here, and if it is upgrades to software (free) or will require more purchases. Right now I'm not able to use this device in the way that I expected when I purchased it.

The webs server software will be an integral part of the ProfiLux control software which is and always will be free.

As I see the development right now of the webserver all you will need is a LAN card, which is very much a common upgrade option for many these days. This is in line with any other controller on the market that offers webserver integration. The beauty with GHL is you then dont also need to go and spend out on the software as well.

To make it a statement - GHL do NOT charge the user for ProfiLux control software, i know others do charge for software , but GHL do not its FREE.

You could always remote desktop into it

Thay way you wont need the software with you
