Question Regarding Chaetomorpha

Hello,

I had some attached to some lr in my 18gal. I was having a problem with salinity and slowly raised it from 1.021 to 1.024. I noticed that my chaeto started looking like it was dying. I have decent water flow and here are my parameters:

Parameters:
sal 1.024
Ph 8.4
Amm 0
nitrites 0
nitrates 10
temp 78.5 constant

Livestock:
3 clown fish
1 citron goby
1 peppermint shrimp
1 cleaner shrimp


I do bi-weekly water changes and have a auto top system with ro/di water. When i looked in the tank this morning all of my chaeto was gone. Any ideas on this one?

Chaeto doesn't normally attach to anything. I have grown chaeto in my algae grow out tank (salinity of 1.020) as well as my sump (salinity of 1.025), so I don't think that is the problem. Maybe it wasn't chaeto or maybe there wasn't enough nutrients (PH4 and NO3) for it to grow. Some fish eat chaeto, so I've been told, so maybe someone was hungry.

Ok have i mis-id? Green bubble leaf plant life. Mine attached to a piece of lr.

green bubble is certainly not cheato. Cheato is stringy, maybe you have a caulerpa racemosa?

Can you take a picture? It does sound more like grape caulerpa (racemosa) than chaet. Caulerpa's can also be very sensitive to changes in salinity and other factors. Much more so than many other macro's.

Sounds like grape culerpa tp me too. Chaeto looks like sark green spaghetti...
