Question regarding clam origins?

I recently bought a teardrop maxima...It's my 9th clam. The others were all aquacultered, ORA clams. The teardrop is not. I bought the clam brought it home and acclimated him to my tank. He seems healty and when I bought him his foot was already firmly attached to a small piece of rock. After I brought him home I thought ot ask the retailer where it came from. He called his vendor and the vendor stated that the clam came out of Jakarta...Has anyone had experience with clams from Jakarta.

One last question for those who know. This clam has alot of tan colored sponge growing on its shell. Should I remove the sponge with a brush or something?

Yes it is Clam forum.

If your clam is from Jakarta, it is smuggled from there.
I'd think your clam is from Vietnam, most of the tear drops are coming from there these days.

I'd brush the clam.

as long as the sponge isn't dying, i'd leave it.
