Question regarding diamond goby

I wanted something that would turn the sand over. He's doing that & more - building a new fort everyday like a kid after a heavy snow, lol.

My question is, until I added him, I had very little algae but I feel like while he's sifting he's possibly creating an outbreak as my water is loaded with particulates. As he's sifting plumes of dust kick up & get dispersed through the power heads.

Just wondering if he's helping the algae along. I need to step up the maintenance.

I have a DG and its one of my favorite fish. He does turn over the gravel. He is 2 years old and is about 3 inches long. He was tiny when I got him- less than 3/4". When young he was a serial burrow builder and the sand flew. Now, he is satisfied with one home. He still filters the sand for food but the turnover is less but very adequate.

I like a little suspended material as it quickly goes down the drain and is caught by my filter socks- felt. Great way to get it out of the aquarium. Don't think my guy increases algae growth and may reduce it over the long term by getting the stuff out of the substrata.

Good luck and enjoy your guy.

It'll be like that for a lil while. Pretty soon the detritus will get picked up in overflows and such or settle in areas behind rocks that he can't get too.
But the rest will be sparkling clean.
Make sure you have a screen top

lol they are the best eating fish in all my tanks. just do water changes if you are worried about to much pollution getting stirred up. should level out before to long
