Question: What is it?

I was at my LFS and saw some seahorses ( Reidi) for sale. The female looked fine but the male had a puffy 'ring' around the eye. The eyeball itself was not protruding, but the area surrounding the eye was swollen. Looked kindof like the puffy rings of an Acan. When food (frozen mysis) was introduced into the tank, the affected fish did eat. I was told that when they arrived at the store, they were ok. It had just started a few days ago.

So my question is: Is it worth my while to buy them (the pair) and nurse the affected mate back to health? Is this condition of the eye called pop eye? Is this a bacterial infection?
I have a quarentine tank ready to place them in. I am just not sure if this is a simple thing or something more serious?
Thanx!

not sure what it is maybe one of the experts will chime in . but i do think you want to start with a healthy specimen to begin with . they are hard enough to keep without starting out diseased.

Without seeing it, I can only guess. My guess would be the beginnings of GBD around the eye. Not true popeye. I too would recommend passing on them.
