Questions about Prazi-Pro

Hello there! :wavehand: I ordered some Prazi-Pro. I have some questions about it! I checked Dr. Foster and Smith and heres what is said,
* Liquid praziquantel treatment for aquarium parasites
* Effective against suseptible disease conditions in fresh or saltwater aquariums
* "May also be used as a preventive for flukes, tapeworm, and flatworms.
first ready-to-use liquid concentrate praziquantel treatment for aquarium use. Controls disease conditions caused by flukes, tapeworm, flatworm, and internal parasites. Use in freshwater or marine aquariums. Offers rapid control without negatively impacting your biological filtration. May also be used as a preventive. Not recommended for reef aquariums with Feather Duster Worms or other ornamental worms. 4 oz treats 480 gallons, 16 oz treats 1920 gallons"

Does the affect macro algae in my tank? How much water do I have to remove after treatment?:confused:Thanks

I have no first hand experience using it in a reef aquarium along with corals and inverts. I have read about many people who have with little to no effect on corrals and inverts. I have heard that it will kill any feather dusters and feather duster like corals. So I would conclude that it is safe to use in your aquarium although I would use it in my display tank as a last resort. Setting up a small QT is by far the most reasonable and beneficial method.

Some notes on Prazi-pro:
- Prazi-pro is supposedly 100% out of the water after 72 hours of original dose
- Prazi-pro should kill all flukes(In tests) by the 18-24 hour mark
- The largest possible water change that is feasible is advised by the company
- Prazi-pro will make your skimmer go nuts, you should turn off all mechanical filtration during dosing.
- A second dose of prazi pro 4 days after the end of the first dose should be performed to kill any of the fluke eggs that should hatch in the second dose period.

If you do it I would perform the largest possible water change along with running carbon to remove any traces that may be left in the aquarium.

Good Luck

Flukes

It will not hurt the Chaetomorpha, but I would use it in a QT if at all possible!

I don't really think the Qt will help as i have flukes and the eggs will still be in the tank. Also my my only extra tank is housing a green spotted puffer i got for christmas... :headwally:

The only thing it affected when I had to dose my 180 was Xenia. It shrunk them instantly and they melted away within 2 weeks. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing in my case, I didn't want the Xenia in the tank anyways lol.

the flukes die off fairly fast ... by the time u do 2 rounds of Prazi in QT, the flukes in DT have died off ...

Prazi'd my DT's many times over the years. No problems with Bubble Tip Nems, SPS, LPS, Softies, Fish, Inverts, etc. The only that that has ever seemed upset in Prazi is my Duncan but it never looks that bad and is always perfectly fine after I do the water change and add carbon afterwords.
