questions about the Osmolator

Convince me it is worth the extra money over other top off systems.

My resevoir will be just about 7.5 feet below the top of the sump. This seems to be too high for your pump. Is there a workaround?

Does the system does a specific amount, a specific time, or does it have 2 sensors? a low level and high level?

It has two sensors, a primary optical sensor and an emergency float switch. It also cannot pump for more than 10 minutes, this would cause it to shut down. It can pump 9ft. I think it speaks for itself and I don't like to talk people into anything, you need to make your choice but considering everything it includes I don't think the cost is that much more than anything else out there.

At 8 feet, how much water will it pump in 10 minutes, and how much rest time does it need before it can pump again?

It is accurate to within a millimeter, it can pump again immediately. In 10 minutes, at 8ft I would guestimate it would pump about .5 gals. Keep in mind though that everytime the sump drops 1mm it kicks on so very little is needed at each dose cycle.

Ah, very cool. Now, this might be a dumb question, but is there a check valve or something to stop the sump from siphoning back into the resevoir?

Also, does the pump sense the resevoir is dry and not turn on and burn out?

The 10 minute time out should cover a reservoir run dry but the pump is very resilient to running dry because it is essentially a bilge pump with a DC motor behind a seal- it is not water cooled. The backsiphon is prevented by never allowing the hose to touch the water surface, no check valve is used and since they are inherently unreliable I wouldn't use one.

Ah, I see good deal. I was worried about the check valve. Now I understand. Thanks Roger. Now I guess its off to Marinedepot.
