Questions an acrylic tank

Hello everyone,

I had a question about my 200-gallon acrylic tank. What are the odds of a properly built tank bursting a seal and exploding inside the house?

I ask because I had an issue with a flood a while ago and I feel I have all my bases covered so it never happens again. This is my only other concern that keeps me up at night and I wanted to see if it was valid or not.

Regards

It happens, just like a brand new cars motors seizing up. Anything is possible. With that said The odds are small, but the are there.

Thing is, unlike a flood where you aren't covered unless you have flood insurance, most would cover any damage done by a tank breaking. I know mine covers any damage done. I made sure before I put it in as I've had my house flood before. I know that feeling you have in your stomach every time it storms badly. Not a good feeling.

Check with your insurance company and see if they cover a tank break. I have State Farm and they do. They don't cover any livestock / pets, but damage done is 100%.

+1... The only assurance against a flood is insurance for a flood!

I think the chance of a well built acrylic tank on a structurally sound stand and floor bursting a seam is quite low; but it does happen. I went with acrylic on my most recent tank in part because I feel like a welded seam is stronger than a rubber seal.
