Questions...Anampses Cuvier

Seen a beautiful 4-5" Pearl Tamarin or Pearl Wrasse at the LFS today with a nice price tag. Only problem is, I have an established pair of Red Tail Tamarins.

Should I anticipate any aggression, either way if I choose to add the Pearl Wrasse to my DT? DT is 190g/230g Total Volume, SPS Dominant with open scape.

Wrasse experts, please chime in?

Anyone?

Probably a better question...anyone have experience in keeping several Anampses Wrasse species in the same Tank? Pros/Cons? Are they considered to be more aggressive or territorial than the Halichoeres Genus?

I would guess to say you would be fine. I have an anampses yellowtail and a potters together and they are best buds.

Ok, thats nice to hear...thanks for chiming in Bradley! My Anampses Chrysocephalus pair are best buds...I'm concerned about adding another Anampses to the mix. Do you house your wrasses with any clams???

Nope. I've never had much luck with clams. My purple tang decided he liked them 5 yrs ago. So I haven't had one since.

I couldn't refuse and ended up purchasing this guy. Absolutely stunning fish. Very healthy, active and entertaining. Gets along fine with my Anarmpses chrysocephalus pair. The contrast in colors is insane. No bladder issues, and he eats pellets, pe mysis, brine, clams, caviar and mussels! Swims in and out of my hand too.

I'll try and gets pics of him inside the DT, but he's super quick!

Lucky you. Anampses are my favorite, but it seems impossible to get them in healthy.

Thanks dvmsn.

Yeah, I think Anampses' are a bit delicate, depending on how they were collected. I actually failed with my first Red Tail pair but these two are doing very well. All three are rather docile and do their own thing. I think the Halichoeres family is a lot more territorial and aggro!!!

Can anyone chime in on mixing Anampses with Cirrhilabrus? Thinking of adding a pair of C. Rubisquamis or C. Roseafascia...errr one of each. :D

IME Anampses and fairy wrasses get along really well. I also don't see any issues with potters wrasse or other Anampses (females at least.) With the issues of the two male psych heads I had I would be cautious of two males of different species.

Rosefacia can be either a really mean wrasse or pretty calm. I've heard horror stories from others, but mine has been like a gentle giant so be cautious.

Nice pickup. I saw it at PK myself, but since I'm pulling out all my sand, it was a no go for me. Hope ite does well for you!

Ok, thats great to know as I've heard the same. Some good, some bad...guess it all depends on its surroundings. Thanks LAngels!!!

Hey Peter...yeah, picked this guy up at PK. It was on hold for 24hrs and I was almost sure it was going to be gone, but Mike called me the following day and told me the guy had flaked out.

How's the tank doing? Sand all out? Did you acquire the Aussies you mentioned?

Beautiful wrasse! That guy gets BIGGGGG!

LOL...yeah, head shape gets more pronounced. Similar to that of a parrot! Love him tho...cant stop staring at him.

Tank is MUCH better with the sand gone. I left a small area for the halichoeres wrasse, and the tube anemones. I did get the aussies... still coloring up - great potential.

Do you still have the flagfin?

Unfortunately no, but I loved that fish. I witnessed it get eaten by my Haddoni Carpet, and was super PO'd. I lost too many nice fish to the Carpet which is why I had sold it. Couldnt risk losing anymore fishies!!!
