I am setting up a 50 gallon breeder for a reef. I was thinking about putting a school of 6-10 bangaii cardnalls in there. Has anyone tried breeding bangaiis in a school or will they just fight?

Thanks for your input.

probably a lot of fighting, but with a large enough group, it may get spread out enough to be ok...not really sure though.

my strategy is to have a single pair in the DT, and a second in the sump....same with my Oci's

Bangaii cardinals dont school as adults. The juveniles will school. If your hoping they will school like glass cardinals they wont for long. their will be a lot of fighting and maybe some deaths.

One of our zoos has a 1000 gallon or so aqurium with hundreds of bangaii cardnals and nothing else. I just thought i might be able to down size. Alot. I have seen other public aquariums with big tanks and schools of them together.

You won't get them to school in a 50. They will pair then start killing the straglers. Your best bet is to buy a pair, or buy 3 or 4, let 2 pair then return the rest or sell them to buds. A male will have a larger lower jaw than a female.
