I have a 10g that is set up for my daughter. I have some superman shrooms, and some other random ones as well. The only other coral in her tank is a kenya tree and some blue clove.

A week ago or so, I swithced lights in her tank.. She had just a regular hood on there before, with 2 screw in PC bulbs that were either 10k or 67k, not sure. I got it used and the guy couldn't recall. I switched it over to dual 32w PC. Under the old bulbs, the shrooms got huge and were spreading quick, under the PCs they barely open, and it looks like some are MIA. Would the lights really have that bad of an effect on these?

I have not tested the tank water, but I tested my 90, which is where I get her water from. That was ok. I have not had to feed the tank anything because she has no fish. She has one pep shrimp, and I guess I do drop a pellet or 2 in every week for him.

I am using chemipure as my filter media in a HOB filter, and have a MJ600 for flow.

Any thoughts

I'm pretty sure the screw-base PC bulbs would not put out light/PAR close to what a regular pin-style PC would put out. You say "dual 32 watt" --- does this mean 2 32 watt bulbs = 63 watts?

If so, you may have light-shocked the mushrooms. If you have two of them, turn one bulb off. If that's not an option, do something to reduce the light coming in for now. Raise the fixture, lay some screen over the tank, or block half the top with piece of cardboard.

Give them a couple weeks to acclimate and then try it all at full intensity.

Also, bluer light seems to make mushrooms happier than bright white light.

Yes I have 2 32w PCs, for a total of 64w. I don't know why I didn't think of the light shock right away. Thats kind of like reefing 101.

I have been only running 1 bulb for the last few days and that seems to help out so far. I was surprised though that my kenya trees didn't seem phased at all, or my blue clove, only the shrooms.

I am running 2 50/50s now, and I have 1 actinic bulb I could run, but I thought that was to blue, but I am used to the bright look of my 90.

Will zoos benefit from the blue color as well? I have a ton of small frags in my 90 that get lost. I would llike to start putting that stuff in her tank to keep it alive with out it getting burried..

Today I removed one of teh 50/50 bulbs, and put teh actinic back in. I hope this will make a change for the better. Also need to pick up another timer for the lights, the one I had on there finally kicked the bucket today.
