Size is in-between a nickel and a quarter, no shell.. Curled up in a tight ball when I took it out and put it in the fuge.

It's appearance and size is similar to some pictures of berthella stellata, but I'm not familiar with them. If that's what it is, they secrete acid as a defense so don't pet it.

Looks like a sea slug to me and it looks somewhat sponge like. So I'd guess it's a sea slug that eats sponges. A nice specific guess of an answer for you...
What do you think it came in with? Has it been living in your system long? If so it's eating something.

After googling berthella stellata, and sea slugs, it turns out there is a rather extensive forum on sea slugs out there just waiting to be used... It will take me a while to match him up. The tank is newly set up, so there really isn't a whole lot in there yet. He came with the rock, from TBS (Florida, Atlantic, Gulf slug/hare). I saw something of the same color swimming at night fast and very erratic, so fast I couldn't keep a flashlight on it long enough to allow my eyes to focus (weeks ago). After reading about some of the swimming sea hares, makes me wonder if it was this guy swimming around. He's locked up in the external fuge for now.

So I emailed the pictures to the folks at the sea slug forum... They responded with in a couple of hours and were super excited to pass them around for an ID. The verdict is:
"lamellarid snail"
"This is not an opisthobranch, it a lamellarid snail, with an internal shell , they are often confused with sea slugs, but they have characteristic tentacles. I don't know what species it is, but if you type "Lamellaria" in google and search for images you will get many similar things.
All the best!"
They believe him to be reef safe.
