I'm going to transfer my first fish out of QT to my DT. How do I do this?

I matched salinity and temperature is about 1 degree different potentially. do I put the fish in the old QT water and drip in the DT water? Then just put the fish into the DT?

i see lots of threads on TTM and what not, but not exactly how you go about the actual transfer.

I just catch them in a Tupperware container when everything is matched.

Then I let them slide into a plastic strainer and put them in the tank :)

First off, congratulations on your QT tank, you apparently are trying to do the best job for your new friend. As stated above, you matched salinity and temp, you have done your job, just be gentle and move him over to the display. If there are fish in your display I would add that moving him after lights out for the day. I have found doing it with no lights on keeps the other fish from acting aggressively to a new comer. Tomorrow the lights will come on and I have found that the aggression is almost nill when done this way.

Good luck

If everything matches you can just drop the fish in the DT. Depending on your fishes at some point you may want to look into an acclimation box to allow all the fishes to get use to the new guy. It can cut down on aggression. Good luck and congrats on QT your fish.

yes i personally picked up one of those lided plastic cages for hermit crabs that all pet stores sell, drilled some holes in it and mounted some suction cups on one side, and i let my fish chill out in that for a few days to help with aggression.

great thanks for all the responses.

i'll just transfer him as is into his new home as is. i'll try not to get the QT water into the DT. but then again there were no diseases and the extra QT had no chemicals used in it... so i guess it should be fine.
