Quick Opinion Question

What do you think is more important for a sea horse tank, a reef keeper lite or a chiller?
Hi,
I have decided that I am going to do a sea horse tank as my next set up. After reading over a few threads I just had a question of what people thought would be more important. I am going to school in rhode island and live in the dorms so i have free air conditioning. When i go back home my basement is fairly cold as well. So i feel that a chiller may not be necessary.
But there seems to be some debate on whether a chiller is necessary to use. I was just wondering what people thought would be a better buy, saving up for a chiller and getting that or getting a reef keeper lite? All opinions will be useful.

Thanks

In a seahorse tank- definitely a chiller is far more important. Seahorses don't need any special lighting whatsoever. However, they need to be kept in chilled waters to thrive.

Whether you need a chiller or not, depends on where you live and the general room temp. If at room temp, your tank is around 72-74. Then a chiller/heater is NOT needed at all. :) Just depends, like I said.

If you're new to seahorse keeping- check out the ORG

Sorry if I didn't clarify, the reef keeper lite is a basic controller to keep the temperature to key, or any other water parameters that I decide to hook up to it. I appreciate the info and link as well. Thanks

A controller is not necessary for a seahorse tank under normal conditions.
A chiller is ONLY needed if you will be unable to maintain the recommended temperatures.
