quick plumbing question

I am planning on changing out my return pump and having part of the flow go to a separtate sump tank. The pump is a Mag 18 so I'm pretty sure I am going to have to throttle the flow going to the main tank some even when I have it T'd off to the other tank.

My question, where would I put some gate valves? Currently my thinking is one will go on the line to the sump tank to control the flow rate through this tank and another will go above the T-off point to control flow to main tank. Is this feasible?

Thanks for any info.

So you have two sumps? You want the return to feed the second sump as well as the DT? How will the water get from the 2nd sump back to the first?

Place 1 valve after the T in the line going to the 2nd sump. This line will have less head pressure than the one headed to the main tank and water will follow the path of least resistance so the valve will be needed to force water to your DT. If the resulting flow to the main tank is still too much then a valve after the T on the line headed to the main tank will also be needed.
