Quick question about tangs

So I have 75 with a pair of clowns, a flame hawk and a Pygmy angel. I want two add a yellow and hippo tang. I was thinking 1 1/2-2in a piece. Should I add them together or put one in first. (Before people start freaking out I'm upgrading to a 180 next year it's going to be my wedding present from my future wife) those tangs should be good for awhile in there correct? Or do you think that's too much of a bio load?

wait till the upgrade, things happen and upgrades don't sometimes, IMO. others will comment im sure. but both in a 75 is to much no matter how small.

If you get them that small, they will be fine in that tank for a little while, it's not like they're gonna be full grown in 6-9 months. You can add them at the same time, but I don't think it will matter much at that size. They're more aggressive and territorial when they get bigger. Great wedding present, btw.

I think you'll be ok adding the fish as well, but like mentioned above a lot of things can change in a years time. If you do decide on getting the fish, make sure you QT first. GL.

No I'm not waiting until I'm upgrading, I have an opportunity to get the fish now for free, also I really enjoy those specific fish and so does my fiancé. Thank you for answering a question I didn't ask hkgar, but I know a plethora of people with blue hippos that rarely have gotten that big in the home aquaria and are 5+ years old. I've read old forums on here and the most experienced Paul B said a 75 would suite a hippo just fine and they grow to the size of their surroundings. I don't mean to be rude I wasn't asking the question you answered and I don't need lectured.

@gimpyfin yes she knows this is my favorite hobby and she knows my dream aquarium is a large one. So she got her dream ring and I get my dream aquarium lol.

@cloak I know a lot can change but this is a done deal it's not the typical "oh I'll be upgrading."

Fish don't grow to their surroundings, if they are given good conditions they will continue to grow even if in a small tank. http://injaf.org/articles-guides/do-fish-grow-to-the-size-of-their-tank/

That being said I don't think hippo tangs are super fast growers so you should have time. Wish my lady would buy me a tank, haha.

Hmm, maybe a smaller tank stunts growth?

I was just referring to the first comment by Paul b. I honestly feel a 1 1/2-2in hippo would be alright in a 75 for a long time. But that's just me. A friend of mine has one in a 90 for about 6 years. Which we all know is a taller 75. Yeah I'm lucky she loves the fish too and a 180 reef can be done within her set budget for us.

That's what 'they all say'

Yellow will be fine, as will the regal when small (though small Regals can be difficult to keep); but as the latter grows it can become idiosyncratic and be a real problem ....

I inherited a pair of 5" Regals in a 90 I bought off CList. They were crazy. I rehomed one when I actually did upgrade to my current 265.

Well your old lady didn't inherit an extremely large sum of money either :lmao:

I look forward to your large tank build thread. GL.

Samsies. It's a rare pleasure.

Also, these fish are free so that's almost $100 that op can save by jumping the gun. Priorities.

Everybody wants to be PaulB when they want a tang.
Nobody wants to be PaulB when it's time to wire an ozone machine, or motor out into the ocean for water, or laser mojanos, or hurricane the rugf, or feed nothing but live food ever.
He could change it to PaulBuffet the way reefers paw through that post history for the choice portions.

You asked if they would be good for awhile. Some people said no, some yes. You said your not waiting. Do what you want but don't ask a question if you don't care about the answer.

Free can cost you big time down the road. Some lessons are just better learned. Shame for the two fish who's lives have been valued only at a hundred bucks. Good luck with what you want to hear.

I asked also if I should add together or separately and I also asked if they would create water quality issues. I am going to do it regardless I just didn't want them to kill each other in the meantime

It's not like I'm putting them into a 10gal tank. 75 gal is still very large for a couple inches of fish. Thanks for the sarcastic remark. Very helpful for my original questions.

I understand all of that, the only thing I do also is feed mostly fresh cut seafood and only some live. Very rarely do they get pellets or flakes.

How do you know?

Regardless of any silly posturing, I look forward to your large tank build thread. GL.

Well what I was getting at is we are currently building our new house and it's already in the construction where the 180 is going to go. Money is not an object and it's just a slow process.cwedding planning is trumping my build right now lol.
