quick question:Do Takana's pygmy wrasses (Possum wrasse) sleep in the sand?

I have a barebottom 60 gallon and I just purchased a Takana's pygmy wrasse also known as Tanakas possum wrasse, from Live Aquarias divers den. I am guessing I will have to add sand today, but I want to make sure before I get my tank all cloudy. Thanks

I have a related pygmy wrasse, the yellow-banded or sharp-nose pygmy wrasse. With that said, no, they sleep in crevices of your rock-work. Definitely not in the sand. Like many wrasses, they have a schedule and will "disappear" at their bedtime. They are phenomenal fish, IMHO.

+1 !

They do sleep in the rockwork and usually they'll find 2-3 spots that they'll use habitually. I never saw where mine went, though I had a six line wrasse that had a crevice right in the front of the tank so you would see him spin his cocoon like threads to hold him into the rockwork. Very interesting.

wow, I hope mine decides to sleep in the front!

I just moved a red-finned fairy wrasse into my display. As soon as the white LEDs went off, he headed for the best hole in the rockwork. Then about 10 minutes later I noticed my possum wrasse finning madly at the entrance to the hole. The red-fin poked him a few times and the possum relented and found a new pad to crash. Interesting both possum and the red-fin do not like to be picked on and quickly end it, then move on.
