Quick qustion?

are their certain fish your looking at?

I would stay with a couple fish that max size is around 3" full grown. a couple clowns, a blenny, gobies, cardinals, chromis, ect are all good choices.

yeah, they will be fine in a 10 gal. although bigger is always better. mine are in a 75 gal. and rarely do they swim more than a 10 gal space in my tank.

Hey thanks. Might get one because the wife is always saying why can't you get a nemo and I'm like huh.

Wife came home with this. The receipt says maroon clownfish but it looks like a black and white ocellaris. I'm not even sure to tell you the truth.

everything i have read points towards two facts:

1:
fish need a minimum volume of water

2:
fish need that volume of water to be in a shape that suits their species

example:
the general rule of thumb for marine tanks is "for every inch of fish you need 5 gallons of water"

with that said, an 8 inch yellow tang will not fit in a 40 gallon aquarium because tangs like to swim fast and for long periods so they need a tank with large dimensions, i think it comes out to 80 gallon minimum.

on the other hand a 3 inch goby can live in a 10 gallon tank because he likes to hang out in one spot most of the time.

lol all in all i cant advise on the species of clown you have, because i lack the experience. but i hope the above information helps. I have, however, read from reputable sources that Ocelaris clowns are happy in a ten gallon tank if there is only one fish in the tank. But i believe the maroon clown gets twice the size of the Ocelaris. And clowns are active swimmers. They pick a place in the tank to call home and "host" an ornament or pump or coral, and explore in large circles around their home.

hope that helps.

Oh man! Will he be alright? This is going to be the only fish in this tank.

No, 10 gal is nowhere near enough space for any maroon. A single clown will almost always become a female. A grown female maroon clown is one of the most territorial fish we keep. It will (literally) kill any other fish in a small tank; once they have matured and become territorial. If the guy who sold you this maroon knew it was going into a 10 gal tank; it would be a good place to avoid buying any livestock.

IMO, a 10 gal is too small for any clown, and way too small for a pair. If you insist on a clown, I get an Ocellaris, they stay a little smaller and are easier than perculas. I think these are the fish you should be looking at: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/aquarium-fish-supplies.cfm?c=15+2124

Guess it'll be alright until it gets a little bigger it's only maybe 2'' and I can take it to my lfs and get something else. Maybe a fire fish?

Yeah it's fine until it gets full grown. That clown is still pretty small. Make the lady happy for awhile, then trade/sell/gift to a better home.

Tail spot blenny's are good looking nano fish.

A maroon grows 5" long, has teeth and will fight a buzzsaw. YOu will have, ultimately to upgrade to a 100 g to accommodate that fish.
