quik derasa clam question

Could a quik change in type of lights make a giant derasa clam gape wide open? Today I tranfered from a 250W/150W/250W halide setup to a 6X54 watt ATI Sunpower t-5 unit.

It seems to be the only animal in my tank to have a noticable change and I have never seen him gape this much ever!

I have a small derasa right next to him with no effects. I also have a new squamosa clam with no effects. No pyramid snails.

Changes of lighting could always be a reason for different clam reaction. I wouldnt see it gaping wider because of it. Maybe retraceted more or reaching for more light.

try reposting in clam forum it will stay on the board longer and mor people might chim in.

This is the 140g right?

Any changes could make the clam mouth open. The intake siphon open just means its ticked off. If the other thing you have changed has been the lighting, I would cut the photo period. I know some of the high end T5 fixtures put out a ton of PAR so it may actually be getting a lot more light than what it was used to.

Just a note, clam gaping is when it loses muscle control of its shell and the shell hangs open. The intake siphon open is just a sign of stress.

That makes sense. I'll take a picture if it is still doing it today. The only other thing which has not bothered it at all for the last month but has bothered me is that my two tangs, "yellow and tomini tangs" like to ""kiss"" the clams mantle as if they are kissing algae off it. Has not bothered the clam at all. He doesn't even flinch.
