Quoyi parrotfish reef safe?

Anyone on here snag that 7" beauty?

The last 6 or so that sold have been MIA, I would also love to know where that stud went. Love the coloring

I noticed they only specified that he ate pellet food, and he looks a little on the thin side. Hope whoever got him feeds heavy to make up for it.

Kind of hard to tell with the conflicting pictures I'm finding from images on the web. You all may be right. The most consistent hint I'm getting are the stripes on the mouth and around the eyes. From what I can see the princess has the stripes, and the quoyi has more of a dot/dash pattern around the eyes.

Still a little hard to get a good pic. She's still shy in the QT and has on her camoflauge somewhat trying to hide. Don't know why she picked the air stone instead of the couple of pieces of LR I put in the tank.

Thoughts? Princess or quoyi???

I think it is Scarus iserti (striped parrotfish) and I'm basing that on the blue margins on the tail. In princess parrotfish the margins are orange/pinkish. This is the easiest way to tell these two species apart. The eye/mouth markings are all wrong for a quoyi.

My thoughts too, but most fish I see for sale a very thin compared to all of my obese tank inhabitants! Kinda surprised they didn't have silversides listed as food he was eating, since the last couple that sold mentioned that. I'm not sure if DD actively treats fish or if they just "observe" for a couple weeks. My Quoyi had a round of PP before I received him. That would make 3 rounds of PP he has had. Any fish recently caught from the ocean should at bare minimum have at least one treatment of PP to kill off anything internal that I would assume most all wild caught fish have to some degree

It is my understanding that all DD fish have been through treatment.

Thanks, Man. She still loves the normal pellets. Not going after nori just yet. She will probably need some training from the tangs once she enters the DT. I have found some seaweed based pellets that I'm feeding her once per day in the meantime.

I started the prazi treatment Friday. She slowed her eating for half a day once the full dose was reached, but got back to normal the next day...

Ouch. The striped parrotfish gets up to 14 inches. Though my tank can probably support this fish full grown, I don't know how comfortable it will be.

Also: I'm reading conflicting information on the web. Can anyone verify if the Scarus iserti (striped parrotfish) is reef safe? Generally the scarus line of parrotfish are. I just wanted some validation...

Thanks all...

It's highly unlikely your fish will get that big. Keep in mind the max size of a fish is the largest individual ever caught and published. So that could be like the Shaq of that species. Mine is about 7-8", it's a terminal male, and it doesn't bother any corals at all.

Edit: referring to a Scarus iserti

That's comforting to know. My tank can handle 7-8 inches. Guess I kind of panicked with what I read on the web. Some (probably most) fish normally won't reach their full potential in a home aquarium :debi:.
Good to know about the reef compatibility as well. Hopefully mine will follow suit.

Do you have any pictures you are to share???
