Hey guys, Im in the middle of revamping my tank and looking at new lights. I really would like to stick with LED. this tank will be SPS heavy. I have a marineland 150G cube 36"x36"30. I asked this question in the Lighting section and was told to ask here as well. I have been told from 2 all the way too 5 or six units. I emailed ecotech and they suggested 2 XR30 G4 Pros or they said the better option would be 4 XR15 G4 Pros. what did you guys think

I have a 32x32x26 cube. I've been running 2 xr30 g4 pros for last 2 month. Coverage is excellent and corals are responding well all around the tank. I think 2 xr30's would be fine or if you want to spread them more 4 xr15. I don't think it will matter much either way.

I am running 8 x XR30 G4 Pro's over my 500 right now and in the process of possibly changing over to Metal Halides so mine might be up for sale shortly, only 7 months old. Here are the lights before I added anything to the tank.

Just got 2 xr30 pros. I'll check with my par meter then decide if more are needs. Thanks for the help folks

It wouldn't necessarily be PAR that's the problem. The thing about LEDs is shadowing. The top of SPS will get light and grow, but as they grow, they will shadow underneath from receiving any light, which will cause the coral to start to STN. This is why people will buy extra lights or supplement with T5 (I started supplementing with T5 recently as I got a bigger tank and didn't want to purchase another Radion). This helps fill in light where it would normally shadow.

So just check to see if everything is covered and there's little shadows underneath your SPS.

right I understand that and will keep an eye open for that as well:thumbsup:
