Radion Par Chart Updated 2014 edition

I just wonder why the Gen2 Pro is stronger than the Gen3 pro by look at Par chart spectrum @ 14K, 18K and 20K. why?

Did Ecotech change the colour contributions for their preset spectrums?

From memory 20k used to use 21% white?
Now its 17% white on 20k?

That would explain small differences in par at presets other then 12k?

I assume that the gen2 pros readings were taken last year using the older presets?

Does anyone else remember the presets being tweaked by Ecotech?

Im so glad i found this thread, thx for the time and effort you've put into this! I have a few questions if you don't mind.

1. Are the par readings below/above water?
2. If they are below water, how high above is the light above the surface?

A request: is it possible to do a par reading at 50% and 75% max intensity say at a spectrum of 18K to see if the adjustment is indeed linear?

Comment: assuming the top chart is all leds at 100%, i would guess that would be a spectrum at 12k because the par readings are exactly the same as the bottom chart at 12K.
Notice also that the gen 3 pro is smoking hot as you go towards the white spectrum but as you go towards blue the gen 2 Pro becomes the hotter unit.

Thanks for this info very good. I currently have two Gen 3 Radion pros. Not being used for my next project. I do need a total of 3 to cover a 48x30x16 tank. Since it seems the gen 2 pro gives better par levels at 14k 18 and 20k do you think it would be a good idea to mix it up a bit and for the 3rd get a Gen 2 pro? If I do will they still connect with each other? Thanks in advance.

2 gen 3 pro's will work out fine for a 48 inch tank. You could always add another one if you are not happy but I used a 2 radions over my 48 inch tank for years. Yes, different radions can talk to each other and hold the a program linked in a group if you did want to have different models.

Okay I am planning on a sps only tank. Looking to put the lights where the puks face front and back of the tank since it's 30" long. Also purchased a t5 retrofit kit that will allow me to put two 48 " T5 in front and two in back. T5's meant to help with shadowing. Of course I know that's a ton of light and intensity will be low at first. Other than great water conditions I'm hoping not being shy with light and great flow will help with explosive growth on sps.

Just remember. Too much light can also be a bad thing too. Properly acclimate your corals to it and you should be fine. Have fun

Just found this thread -- seems there are two going on related to PAR ratings... Anywho's...

I will need to build a chart but on initial readings the wide angle lens increase par on the fringes but you take a hit overall with lower par numbers.

Agreed. There seems to be variance out towards the edges, and wide angle TIRs reduce overall PAR a substantial amount... more than I had expected from literature and research I had done before my purchase.

Does anyone have this data for the wide angle TIR lenses?

Until Eastamerstbias is able to generate wide-angle data with a method matching what he's already provided us (which I would trust more than my own personal analysis), this post of mine may provide some insight at least with Gen 3 Pros.

Your tank is looking mighty fine!

I am working on acquiring a wide angle lens to do a par chart.

Also I can't wait for those arms to come out. I saw them at Macna 2013 and hopefull they will clean up the cord situation when you look at my tank. I want a cleaner look.

8.8.14 Update. I altered some rock work. My sps is starting to really pop in color. I have been on Red Sea NoPox for 2 months and the water quality looks clearer and the algae on the glass has diminished quite a bit.

My radion mounts came in. I saw them at MACNA last year and I have never been more excited for a random tank part. The tank has a clean look to it. The wires have been greatly reduced. The mounts seem sturdy and lock in nicely.
