Radion Powered SPS Nanocube

I really like what you have done. Noticed that you removed the GSP. Your BN is starting to take up valuable real estate quickly. Looking good.

Dood, I've thought about this for a while now, and have NO CLUE what you mean by BN, lol!! I even went and checked the RC Noobs Acronym guide!

Yes, the GSP had to go, just too big and didn't fit the theme of the tank. I think next up is the lobo.

Sweet tank! does the radion grow softies well also?

The only softies I've kept under it for any period of time have been zoas, and they have been growing like gangbusters. To the point where I'm starting to get concerned about how to remove them!

Any issues with salt build up with the fan design?

I haven't had any salt buildup at all in the 4-mo I've been using the fixture, I don't know why people are so worried about this. The salt stays in the water, and salt creep occurs where water is exposed to air. But the salt doesn't transfer through the air, it's left behind in the water (which is why we top off with fresh water). The Radion doesn't touch the water in any way, so not salt buildup. I wipe it off every few weeks to clean dust, that's about it.

Sorry, BN= Birds Nest That fast growing coral on the upper right. I have one in my 40B and it's nice but takes up lots of room.

Oh, LOL! I should have been able to figure that out... Yeah, that ORA hyacinth grows like weeks. I've got a couple of damaged tips on it in the past couple of days from it growing into surrounding stuff. At least is harmless... Planning to do a little pruning today and sell off the frags.

awesome tank!

Thanks!!

Ange in your FTS the Acro on the top Center that used to be white has really colored up. Showing nice purple and green anyone ID this yet?

The stock filter is just a 3-stage media basket. I still use it, but it's empty other than filter floss in the top chamber.

I keep my nano the same way. HOB filter only holds filter floss.I change it every other day or so. I mostly have it for circulation and surface agitation.

What salt are you using?

Edit: Nevermind, I see it above.

Yeah, it really has! It looks better in person, its turned to a peach base with highlighter yellow and white tips. From my ID thread it was thought to be a Deepwater lokani. I've been trying to get a good macro of it for a while but havent had much luck. I'll upload once I manage to snag a decent shot!

So I found one of those new Bali Deepwater Acro's at my LFS today, I MUST have it. Unfortunately, I am completely out of room in my tank, so looking to RC for advice.

My thoughts are to scrap either the:
1) ORA green stylo
2) ORA hyacinth birdsnest
3) Red millepora (at top left)
4) Ditch the bottom left zoas and place it in front of my yellow mille

Thoughts?

green stylo, purple birdsnest, and all zoas!

go all SPS! id replace with a Strawberry shortcake, Pink Lemonade, Red Robin Acro.

get some more red in that bizzitch

Thanks for all the suggeations, though I still cant come to terms with ditching anything so my piece is just sitting at the LFS on hold, lol. Maybe I'll make up my mind by tomorrow.

Do you happen to have a close up picture of your red planet? I'm curious how reds look in your tank. I'm running AI sols and all my pinks and reds look washed out. I have a radion on order which hopefully should ship next week.

Great looking tank BTW

That "washing out" is the main reason I went with the Radion over the AI's. Unfortunately I lost the RP when I bleached out my tank on the initial conversion to LED, so no pictures. I do have a red mille, some red zoas, and a flame hawk that have a good pop of red color. I'll snag some pics the next time I've got the camera out.

I still think the best reds I have seen are under T5's with ATI purple plus bulbs in the mix.

That's good to know. I have one radion coming so I can test out things look. If it doesn't work I'm going to switch to a 400MH, but really hope the radion will work out.

I don't think you will be disappointed. Though it should be noted that a single Radion is closer matched to a 250w MH then a 400.

You have a beautiful nanoreef. The SPS have very nice colour, which is very good to see.

Couple of questions for you:

1. How long has this tank been running?

2. Have you noticed more or less or no change at all in colour since swapping to the Radion?

Thanks sahin!! The tank has been running a little over a year now. I've had the Radion since October, my LFS was on the early order list for them so I got it about a week before you could find them available online.

My color was pretty good before under PC's, I attribute this to keeping parameters rock solid. Growth has definitely exploded and color has improved on some of the higher-light pieces like the ORA borealis.
