nope---does not appear to be drilled--your starting over--start right with it drilled and internal overflows

Be patient and you will find the right deal and alot of us here are looking out for your best interests.

So we are home! We made it home in record time, juswt under 15 hours, 3 kids, 997 miles.

Everyone at home looks great, except the GSP, and the Daisy. They both closed when moved to QT, and have really never opened back again. I really hope they are going to be ok. The sitter did a great job on the magnet, and feedings. Ich looks to be gone, and allfish look really great. Grahams tank looks great. I gave hime a frag from the daisy, and he has a nice ric, all of which looks fantastic. His sand bed is looking really great too. I turned the light timer way down while away, so I think the red goo died off. My duncan looked a bit puney, but has 3 nice sized new heads so I assume that is a great sign. Kar sent me some tanks on the CL, so i am back in the market for the new tank. I feel like I can now take my time a little more, since everyone id on the mend. I cant wait now to get back together, all of the tank occupants.

thanks for coming along on the vaca. It was fun, and I felt better about leaving the tank since I had all of you all to help out!!! Thanks again!

Rae

we enjoyed your vacation as much as you did but the great pics you posted

time to think about changing out that 6 yr old substrate in the hex

I know, you are right. I just see deals like that and get really excited! ;) I "can", but you know this is all "my" money, and I will have to save for some time. I am asking for stuff for my bday, ie the skimmer, and parts to make my fuge, so that will help too. Also I want to do the lights for a bday gift. I am REALLY loving the look of the pendants, but want to be sure what tank I want before I do that.

I have all rocks and shells in the cure tank. Just a HOB, and powerhead right? 3-4 weeks should do it, am I on the right page. I havent had time to check out the threads yet.

you are definetly on the right page here because you with 'us" and definetly smart enough to ask before doing something impulsively(in this hobby)

I looked at a 150 gal,long yesterday on a wood stand for 750 dollars---brand new on sale in BA's.
To have them drill it and add two overflows--I just would not do it with one----you probably would pay 1000 dollars.

Starting to build up your live rock is an excellent idea. I would buy a little each week when you see it on sale and buy another plastic tote to put it in.
That will be your biggest expense to work on right now-----you are going to need between 150-200 lbs of it :eek2:

Lighting--I am strongly considering changing out my metal halide system to TJ's six t5's
check out the link to them that I put on the Capn's log book thread the other night

I think the best thing to do first is to determine what you need in a tank.
Will it be inwall?
Will you have a fishroom?
Is the sump and equipment going to be in the stand?
Then get some dimensions and work out what is best for you. When you've done this get the biggest tank possible that you can house and afford IMO. Just my 2 cents. ;)

I think that will be a good idea Capn, you might not get the shimmer from the T5 like you do with the MH but I've experimented with both and always prefer T5 they have many different colour options and I even noted a little more colour in my softies. I don't think it brought out the colour in them but the colours just looked better under T5.

Good point there Capn. I did PM Rae with a few tanks I found when searching and that was one of them but I didn't notice that it was undrilled. For your first drilled tank (is this your first, Rae?) it would be best to get a predrilled/RR just to make things easier.

No fish room, no in wall. free stanking. I would love to do the pendant lights, I love that look a lot. I have a very contemporary style, and love that clean line, with the hanging lighting. I will start the LR, I can do that for a while, and keep the peepers open for the tank of my dreams. Q~ how tough is it to havve someone drill the tank for you? I may have a glass hookup that can help, but is it tought enough that I don't want to take a risk??

do me a favour kar--stop saying your 2 cents worth---IMO you have as sound advice as anyone on RC, lots of experience and lots of help and empathy for your peers:cool:

You sound like my wife ----in order to give up "her room" for a fish room we had to have the cherry wood cabinet and canopy to go along with the decor
That put a 110gal tank up from 1200 to 3000

BUT the tank is just not long enough for the tangs-this is why I push length, not necessarily gals--although you are going to get more gals when you go for 6 or 8 feet long tanks

But there are deals out there---ask Harold about his deal--I don't want to mention it without out his Okay first
If he reveals his tank deal it will blow you away.

I agree with Scott, Wait and keep looking everywhere they advertise used aquarium equipment. Places like newspapers, forums and friends. In our area there are multiple forums on various sites that sell equipment within a reasonable driving distance. I waited and waited until the perfect deal for me came up. I purchased my 120g with custom made stand and canopy(I replaced the canopy with a taller one my cabinet maker cousin made for me). The tank was drilled, with a custom overflow installed. IT's drilled for a closed loop that included a mak4 pump to power it, an Oceans Motions 4 way complete with plumbing for the CL return. It came with a 25g acrylic sump, Ampmaster 2700 Dolphin return pump, Seperate custom made stand to keep the 40"tall Euroreef CS8-4 monster skimmer next to the tank stand that was also included, All the plumbing, Heaters, power bars and misc odds and ends. The Skimmer was selling at the time for $1400.00 alone brand new and I picked up the 1.5 yr old setup for $1200.00 plus 8 hours time for the round trip to pick it all up.
I simply took my time searching and painfully waited till I was happy with a deal that suited my needs and pocketbook. When it came up, I jumped on it quickly. I had to purchase lighting, Rock, and sand. I shopped around and found these extra items at good prices and then never looked back...lol
I looked at all new equipment and realized that I'd rather wait and buy a used package deal since there were many to choose from. They were good deals, just not for me. I needed to wait for the one I wanted. I'm not cheap just Frugal.
There are alot of people out there that get into this hobby with good intentions but for what ever reason decide to leave and end up selling their setups for a considerable loss. Their loss was my gain and hopefully yours as well.
Good luck on finding your new setup.

Believe me this is one case where the roles were reversed and I was the student and Harold the teacher:smokin:

I totally appreciate your input!!! Why do you think I keep you all around.....only eye candy? No way, I like the brains too! ;) I am going to take your advice and wait, keep looking and see what I can find. I am not in a hurry, our basement in months from being finished, so I have lots of time.

Keep the advice coming! ~~~Rae

just wait for the right time to buy, i bought at the right time but was to much in a hurry to get the system running i regret some of my decisions everyday. 1) my stand is too low, 2) i should have build my own refuge instead of the one it came with 3)even tho its a custom tank i should have drilled but it came with no tags if the sides are tempered.

the price was right since it came with everything to get a reef going from day one. i was able to save everything from the 20 mile transfer. i have replaced almost everything except the skimmer, live rock, fish and coral over the last 5 months.

Darn that stinks!!! I am interested in "the" tank, but I can wait!!! I have to be patient. I think I can, esp after reading the comments from everyone. Thanks for the input, it all helps!

Drilling tanks is very easy to do. I've drilled quite a few and even did Scotts 2nd fuge on my front porch in under 5 minutes. As long as you take your time and use alot of water to cool the drill bit it goes quite smooth. If this is something you're willing to try just ask and I'll give you some the tips and tricks. We have an LFS in our area that does housecalls for a fee but most glass shops will do it for for around $20 a hole if you take them the tank. Problem is most glass shops don't offer a quarantee that they wont break it. A drill bit costs between $10 and $15 and can normally drill 15 to 20 holes before they are junk if you take care of them. I use a cordless drill to make the holes.

Song of the day.....Otis Redding, These arms of mine. I LOVE IT!!!! WOWZA, Listen to it, glass of wine, hug your people! :)
