raffle rares

Reef Bass

colors and textures
Hi everyone. I hope you are enjoying your weekend.

There were a number of "rare" corals won at the last raffle and I neglected to record which went to whom. My b.

Our definition of a rare coral for the raffle is one which should be grown out and a piece donated back to the club raffle. This helps ensure that many in the club can benefit from a single frag that works its way into our group. There's not a set time limit for giving back. As a guideline the frag should have grown enough that a piece the size you received can be donated back while leaving you a piece of that size as well. It could be as little for as a couple months for zoos / palys and fast growing corals or up to a year for slow growing sps. Should a rare coral perish under your care (it happens), please inform the current President so the club no longer expects a frag back.

Rare corals are designated as such when raffled off. If you have any a question as to whether something you won is a rare raffle item or not, just ask.

For example, I won frags of ORA Nathans Green Millepora and Steve Elias Staghorn (among others) last year. I donated a piece of Nathan back to the last raffle and will be donating a nice piece of Steve back this month. In the past I've won ORA Pearlberry, ORA Blue Voodoo and A. carduus frags and have donated back pieces of each. This program works!

I know frags of ORA Nathans Green Millepora and Montipora setosa were raffled off this month. Who were the lucky recipients of those and what other rare corals were raffled?

Thanks.

i got the nathan's that Ken put in and I got a Acan. I think Acans should be included in the process.

I also think it needs to be donated back everytime someone wins a rare. For example i got the pearlberry that ken donated back so i in turn will donate a frag back and the person who wins it must donate a piece back.

On another note, Please be proactive in donating to the raffle. it will come back to you many times over.

I got the sun coral and the acan that is red.....ummm don't know the name it has one small head and one med? I can take a pic as well if needed.

Thanks guys.

Shane, was that possibly a dendro and not a sun coral? I don't recall a sun coral in the raffle.

i think you are right....but it looks like the sun? kinda yellow with an orange middle and eats lots of mysis.

Also i need to give my acan away, my cowfish keeps picking at it and i don't want it to die so i will bring it to the next meeting for raffle.

Pretty sure that's a dendro Shane. Jason got some beauties in recently and we were fortunate to pick that one up for the club. Good job stufffing mysis in its hungry mouths. :)

Your acan will be gladly rehomed in the next raffle. You can always do the upside down plastic container with holes in it over the acan as a protective shield in case your cowfish makes a personal mission out of killing it. And other reefers in our town might volunteer to take it off your hands if it gets too bad.

Craig needs an acan. Great reef photography models...

Thanks everyone for speaking up. Now please grow those beauties and kick a frag back to the club when they've grown enough. Reef on!
