Rainbow Millepora Question

I couldn't disagree more with Helter. For years I ran Reeflux 12K.

I was refering to Reeflux 10K bulbs. The Reeflux 10k is ugly (it's pink!!!), and the numbers on it are less than impressive for a 10K. I like the look of Reeflux 12Ks for about 4-6 months, and then they seemed to drop off quickly. I had the same problems with the Hamilton 10K... it looked great for the 1st six months, but lost it's fizzle (and intensity) afterwards.

I agree that 20Ks make some colors pop (pinks and greens mostly), but I don't like the CRI on blue tanks. If I had to go with 20Ks again, I'd use Radiums on an HQI, or Helios again.

I was just talking to Menard a few weeks ago about XM 10Ks tending to look yellow on some tanks. He, nor I, get the yellow tint on newer bulbs (I started to notice a little yellowing around the 9-10 month mark). Do you think reports of this could have something to do with the level of DOM in the water?

Arioch, there are all sorts of variables that can cause coral to brown out. Can you give us some info on your set up?

The 10K were great, again on HQI. The 12K were better. I liked the 20s best. But I pretty much only ran them on HQI. After a couple weeks at the start on the other I went with HQI. I don't recall them being pink though.

Certainly there was no problem on any of these at 4 months. 6-7 on the HQI ballasts easy.

Anyway....

Sounds like I will be trying the 12k Reflux next and see what this mille will do for me.. It’s not going to be for a couple of months yet but that will give the coral some time to encrust and grow then I will worry about color.. Thanks for all of the replies as I kind of figured it was all going to boil down to my own personal taste..
But back to my original question, does any one else have a rainbow mille and what bulbs do you keep it under and what does it look like?
