Rainbow Raptor Palys

I have to admit that this is the first time that I've heard that raptors grow quickly. I originally got mine from wycombes, and he got his from EF I think. We both have trouble growing them, and we have very zoa-friendly systems, and evrything seems to grow fast except for raptors and ppe's. That's why I figured that you guys had a hardier strain. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some of those because raptor colonies look great!

Mucho, why do all of your responses turn into a soapbox rant about how you dislike this forum? You claim to want to help other hobbyists and engage in real discussions, but all we get out of you are angry diatribes. Do not quote me and use that as fodder for your strange little outbursts. There have been many rainbow colonies that have been pulled out of the ocean and aquacultured, and I cannot say if mine is a direct decendent of raptor's, but I was told that it was and it looks exactly like them.

Zoas, palys and proto palys are collected in varied conditions, some in shallow waters and some in slightly deeper water. Some near run offs and some far from shore. It is nearly impossible to match the desired conditions in one system loaded with polyps from many regions. It's best to hopefully try to find a happy medium when and where all of our polyps can be happy. It's tricky, but it can be done. This is one of the reasons polyps grow well in some system and not in others.

Akwarius, you are looking for a fight, and I respect this sight to much to overtly argue with you in public over a moot issue. You made a statement I disagreed with and I provided an explanation why. You've done this before and it seems you have a problem with me for personal reasons. Maybe you should PM me in private instead of starting something over nothing in public. The very first thing I said, was' "respectfully speaking". Did you see any caps in my post or exclamations in my reply? No sir. My reply encompassed 24 lines in 3 post, you focused on 3 lines, which Crazyzoa agreed with me on and others have also in other threads, but you didn't attack her/them. This is an open and public forum and we are all free to speak our minds and opinions respectfully and that is what I did. When I don't like something here, I simply choose not to look at it or read it. Yes, I do love this forum and I do try to help, share give back and listen, but I'm not gonna fight with you my friend as there was no rant. And please stop trying to publicaly make me look like something I'm not. Disappointed, yes, "angry diatribes", no sir.

Thanks for the considerate response, Mucho. I would like to say that I have nothing personal against you, nor do I intend to make you into my nemesis here on RC. I know that you have contributed positively to this forum and have been here much longer than I. You just happen to have very strong opinions about certain topics that I disagree with. Such as:
Respectfully speaking, there is no such thing as a hardier strain. This goes back to the argument on lineage which is purely a marketing tool. Tank conditions and tank conditions alone will dictate and determine growth rate and coloration.
For example, at one time I was keeping darth mauls from three different sources in the same tank and observed three different outcomes. One of those three was Spackled Reds which is commonly known to be a good grower. This has nothing to do with marketing and everything to do with how well the polyp does in captivity. The Raptors I have barely grow for everyone I know who keeps them in Tucson, so I presumed that they are a weak strain. You can't tell me that all wild collected eagle eyes for example are going to perform the same way in captivity. There are many unpredictable factors that go into this outcome.

I think of it as laziness more than lack of hardiness. I would like some of the hard working raptors if at all possible. ;)

i think it depends on where they were originally collected and if the tank conditions mimic those in the wild.

eg i got a purple hornet frag of 3 polops and now after 2 months i have 13, the tank it came from grows very slowly, possibly where they sit in my tank mimics where they lived in the ocean?

BTW these things are beautiful!!!

yeah these palys are great trying to get some myself. nice pickup. Glad to see mucho back but kinda disappointed he's slipping. could you tell us what kind of lighting and where you have them in the tank?

@ friday night you drink alot don't you LOL always clanking the bottles haha

Right now they're under T5's sitting on a frag rack about 6" under the water surface. Fixture is about 10" above surface.

I didn't get those from you Mike I got two sets, one I ordered from TDF room and the other set I got from Chad & Belinda. Maybe Belinda got them from you??? They grow very well for me, infact they give me atleast 2-3 new polyps a month.

High light, high flow and feed off donations from fish...lol

here are mine parents and a frag I made.

They are one of my favs and pretty good growers to boot

I need to frag them. To add to the discussion THIS picture is from his website. Now I know 100% Chris at reefkoi is an honest man. This is how he captured them looking in his tank. With my lighting and my set up this is how they look in mine.

I only have a small 3 polyp frag a friend gave me. I cant wait for it to grow into a nice colony. My friend has grown a 6x8 colony of around 150 or so in a year. So I would say they are decent growers.
