Raising pH with sand?

Hi All

My system is running a little low in pH (7.7-7.9 GHL probe). My tank is BB as I have limited time and resources to maintain a sand bed.

I am vinegar dosing but only during the day when lights are on.

I have read and implemented most things Randy suggests in the reef keeping articles. I really don't wont to resort to soda lime as this will just be another maintenance issue.

I was thinking to add a container(s) of aragonite sand in the sump. Would this be effective in raising my pH?

Thanks to all in advance.

No, the sand wouldn't start to dissolve until you get below about 7.5. Above that it isn't going to do anything to pH.

The cause of low pH is too much dissolved CO2. The answer is fresh air.

If sand dissolves so does everything else made of calcium.

Get a Kalk reactor. Maintenance is a few minutes every other week, maybe longer.

I like the Aquamedic Kalk Reactor.
