Randall's Goby has gone MIA...

I have had my Randall's and Tiger Pistol in my tank since 3/20. For the past 4 days I have not seen the Goby. The Pistol still sticks his head out at feeding time, but no Mr. Randall. They are usually inseparable, so I take this as a bad sign. Do you think the pistol could have killed him? Has anyone else had this where the goby hides for a while, but you keep seeing the Pistol? I did add a Kole Tang to the DT about the time I noticed him not being around. Do you think he could have messed with him?

Shortly after putting mine in he disappeared. A couple of days later my Yasha's goby changed rocks and was with the Randalls pistol. Fastforward almost a month....Randalls showed up about 5' from where he was before.....in the company of the Yasha's pistol. LOL. Heard of wife swapping but not pistol swapping! Just wish they's move to the front of the tank where he would be more visible.

If both the pistol and the Randall's were missing I would not be so concerned. I would just figure they were hanging out where I can't see them. Seeing the Pistol without the Randall is what has me concerned. I have seen the Goby without the shrimp lots of times, but never the shrimp without the Goby.

I had a randalls and a shrimp for many years. One thing that would sometimes happen is the shrimp would dig "back door" to the cave. I would think my goby was MIA, then I would find him simply poking out the back of the cave, to an area where I could not see him.

Hopefully you find him in good shape.

Yes with both my Randall's/tiger pistol and YWG/candy cane pistol pairs I have had the goby's go underground for weeks at a time and they pop up so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Interesting. Occasionally I'll see only my Yasha goby, but I never see my pistol shrimp unless the goby is out already.

Look who decided to show up right before lights out...

I have no clue where he was hiding. I even looked up under the tank where I can see most of their tunnels. I'm glad he showed back up...I am a big fan of his.

maybe he was on a little vacation. glad he made his presence known! i love gobies, great little fish.

Glad he showed up. Randall's are pretty bold so I'd be surprised to see him go missing. Once in a while my pistol would pop at the goby & it had enough & pushed an empty snail shell at the shrimp to get it to back off. Quite an amusing little fish for sure.

Mine is pretty bold also. I guess that is why I was alarmed to have him go missing for days on end. Now that he has done it once, I wont be as concerned if he does not show up for a while again. He is an awesomely entertaining fish. Watching him and my Red Scooter Blenny face off is quite a show. Both on the sand bed, both with their high fanning fins up trying to intimidate each other...really cool to see.
