Random shots from my 65 gallon SPS/Acan tank.

Decided to dust off the DSLR today and try to get some macro shots w/the broken photobox.. a bit challenging to hold the camera with 1 hand, the box with the other, and push the lights aside with my elbow..but here is what I got.

A little Gem I picked up from LA/DD a while back to get free shipping. I never used to have much luck with gemmifera in my previous tanks. Pretty happy with how it's turning out makes me want to give a pricier blue one a go now.

Aussie something (don't recall), doesn't really show well in the picture but in person it has very a pink hue around each of the terminal polyps. Sadly this piece is a PITA. It's the first Aussie piece to give me trouble (happy now)..however it started to STN on me when I first got it. It has to be smack dab directly in-front of my MP10 to keep happy.. Needless to say it's a FLOW monger.

Millis!

Super Hairy..but brown as brown can be. One of my first acros since getting back in the hobby. Picked it up from Neptune

133177623.jpg

****y maricultured milli that gave me trouble for the first 2 months. Fragged it to save it..then both pieces came back around. Finally getting some colour out of it..normally hairer but I poked it..oops

133177505.jpg

"Tongs Sapphire Milli".. I had a crab that was munching my millies I couldn't figure it out. So I cut most of them in half and tried different spots.. crab gone.. now I have 2 pieces of this coral growing. One seems to have more "teal colour and the other a darker blue.

Peach Nastur (sp)..like many of my acros infected w/GFP. Hopefully when it grows out it will get it's proper colour back.

Birdsnest

133177521.jpg

Unknown Aussie frag I traded for. I can't get this thing to show ANY hints of colour for the life of me.. tried burning.. now trying lower light? It has amazing neon green polyps any thoughts on what it is or what it needs?

133177528.jpg

ORA Belina
I moved it last nite..read that thread abuot how picky it is.. and just moved it back to where it was hence the weak PE.. normally it's VERY hairy, but such a pale purple.

Efflo/Solis

500$ efllo

This is that "blue tipped" efflo I got from LA/DD..brown brown brown.. need to move it to higher light.. not a great photo..but it is growing

133177538.jpg

Deep Green efflo w/cream rim Got it from extreme as a brown out a while back.
133177618.jpg

This is my favorite efflo it really has an amazing shape to it.. I need to use a different lens to take a shot of it as a whole.. I really dig PE for an efflo though, and hope the center will colour up at some point.. I picked it up from extreme as well.

..I bought all these at the same time. One was mike something super blue, the other was TCN something, and one other (not shown). Basically all different "blue tenuis"

133177599.jpg

133177612.jpg

Aussie spathula. Not the best shot, but I wanted to show that it also is infected w/GFP.. Sigh.. well that's better then brown? Nice and hairy though

133177608.jpg

ORA Bretts Cap.. Came in with the most amazing nodes, purple rim. then got attacked by nudis and i had to chop it up sigh at least it's growing back.

133177578.jpg

Tyree Undata.. I can't get this piece to hold it's colour at all new growth looks amazing..old growth.. BROWN. Any thoughts?

133177620.jpg

Neat super NEON green monti I got from neptune. I almost lost it to nudis but it came back around.

Pink Limeaid.. completely infected by GFP

133177626.jpg

These 2 pieces are the same spieces.. not sure what they are.. One is green w/NEON green polyps the other has a really intresting colour to it.. Purple w/green polys, but the new growth is teal w/a purple rim. 1 was a wild piece, the other maricutlured both are right next to each other.

133177502.jpg
(base of this piece is in the mili photo, and the peach nastur.

133177630.jpg

This is one of the most recent pieces I've got I picked it up from extreme, again not sure what it is.. Wild piece. It's a very light yellow with blue rings aroudn some of the polyps. It's hard to photograph as it soaks up the blue from the lights. Thoughts on what it could be?

133177548.jpg

133177497.jpg

These last 2 pieces don't really look all that exciting now, but were the 2 most stunning when I bought them.

This piece is like 90% White, except for the tips which are brown, both the poylps and tips were baby blue when I picked it up. No clue what it is.

133177642.jpg

This piece was the most amazing Green/Pink combo when I first brought it home. I almost lost it so I fragged into 3 pieces..all 3 pieces lived, but browned it's now finally starting to show some colour again, but also seems to be infected with GFP. Any thoughts on what it is? It's one of the few pieces I have that show no PE despite being in 3 very different spots in the tank.

You've got a great selection of acros. Your colors look nice but i cant say the same for your camera skills with some of the pics. My camera skills are worse LOL
Btw, I am a fan of ur tank and would like to see a new fts. I remember seeing your old tank when it was mostly sps and I had to save that one for my sps tanks folder. Hope you dont mind.

Ha, I guess I've been a bit half assed with taking my photos lately. I should dig out the tripod and do things proper again... either way glad you like them. Here are some FTS I took the other week. I would have taken some the other day but I ****ed off all my LPS when I relocated a pump trying to avoid bubbling this one acro, unfortunately I didn't realize until this morning i had pointed it so all the flow was bouncing directly off the glass and hitting all the acans which was to much for them. heh.. also all my acros look brown in FTS.. seems only my frags have any colour heh.

I need to kill the halide and take some FTS you don't notice it in person but in the photos you see the spot light effect of having only 1 halide.

those acan colonies look incredible. They dont sting each other? What are the dimensions of your tank and what is gfp? If I were you i'd add 2 more mp40s on the sides opposing each other.

great acros and wicked acans!

I also want to know what gfp is?

green something something? i have no idea, even checked the acronyms list...

Thanks Guys!

The tank size is 36x24x18. I really dig the dimensions, I used to have a 36x24x24 which was one of my favorite sizes but the shallow height makes for some nice top down viewing.

GFP is Green fluorescent Protein. Basically it's this super dominant protien that takes over the colour from what I understand. I read up on it a little bit just enough to recognize it but not enough to fully understand it. I've got it in a lobo as well. It was kinda neat how it happend. My green slimer fell on it and the lobo attacked it attacked the slimer, now where the slimer was resting on the lobo there is a neon green spot on one of the heads.

For the mp40, ya I've been toying with that very idea or at least adding one. I just can't bring myself to pay 450$ for a powerhead haha.. (450 for an acro sure! ;) )

I'm finding how I have my flow to be setup forces me to put alot of my more demanding stuff in this triangle I have setup. I don't have any good cross tank flow. I would just move a tunze around the side or up front but the down side to a 18" tank is you loose all that vertical real estate. So a pump up front would really impact the viewing area. On my old 5'x36'x2' tank I was able to put a tunze 6100 in each corner and it really didn't obstruct the view.

The acans, I have them clustered together as to which can touch.

The lords and the micros seem to be able to touch. (or maybe the micros were just mislabled lords)

The bowerbankis (are under the efflo).

The Ishigakiensis (which is the orange one on the right) is kinda of a wierd deal.. I need to isolate it a bit more. The lord/and it will lightly zap each other w/tenticals but the flesh can rub and they won't flat out try to destroy one and other. I thought it was a bowerbanki for a while and had placed it next to them but they went after each other if I had them remotely close and did some damage.

The Echinata (which can't been seen). I have to totally isolate as they will utterly destroy anything they come in contact to.

I also have a Rotundoflora which is the same deal as the Echinata.

The Lobos, I'm' running into issues with as none of them can touch so they are all kinda banished to the corners.

and the Willisos luckily don't have big sweepers so I can keep them close to the lords..but still leave a bit of a gap.

I'm pretty close to pulling the long tentacle anemone. Earlier this week I woke up to find it across on the other side of the tank it damaged a bunch of birdnests in the process, and it's getting to big it's reaching up and stinging the bottoms of the sps it's near I keep having to wedge rubble between it and my chips acro. My clowns don't even host. I do really like it though, tanks just to small. If it goes I will have a fair bit more room to space things out.
