Yeah, he's only in the white collar prison. His area is about 10"x5" floorplan with 7" ceilings and a small piece of rock for him to hang on to... :D

I really would like him to have a cell mate though :D That will be one of my goals for the weekend.

Randy,
Off topic a bit, but who are you getting your webhosting from again? My linux server was hacked and I'm thinking of just going with a hosted provider for my pic..

Later,
Tyler

I use www.godaddy.com

They are really inexpensive and I have not had an ounce of trouble with them. I deal with them (on a non-technical level mostly) for three different hosting accounts and about 6 domain name registrations. Can't beat it afaik...

Wow that is inexpensive; even their domain names are super cheap.

I may end up keeping my locally hosted server, but at min I may transfer my registration down the road to them (I'm prepaid for 2 years at my current registrar)..

Thanks,
Tyler

Tyler, our club uses GoDaddy as well. I truly hate their interface though. Once you get things set up and you can switch to FTP, it doesn't matter.

For my own site, I use ipowerweb.com for the past few years. I love the Vdeck control panel, and I'm getting 10,000 megs of space and 250gigs of bandwidth a month for $96 a year. If you decide you like them, please include my email address because if I can find three people this year to give me the referral, next year my site is free for the next year. I only wish I'd known about the referral system a long time ago!

I agree, the interface stinks. I never have to use it though. I just use ws_ftp LE most of the time to transfer files.

I use a free program called FileZilla that I love. I heard there is another good one called Cute FTP, but I think that one isn't free.

I'll have to check out filezilla. I tried CuteFTP a long time ago but I guess I decided on WSFTP instead since I'm still using it...

So are these things eating Mr. Hankey or what???

I think I need some expert help. I have some sort of pod creaturs in my tank that seem to be giving a lot of attention to my sea cucumber. I'm afraid they might be hurting it, though it doesn't seem to be "withdrawing" or anything.

You can see the little pod things on some of these pictures. They seem to mostly stay underneath the cucumber but also crawl around on him a lot.

The cucumber also has some odd spots on him but I think those have been there since I got it. I haven't really noticed the bugs hanging around near the odd spots. Anyway, here are some pictures with arrows pointing at a couple of the pods...

Another thing - I sucked a few of them up with a turkey baster and they are currently in the freezer meeting their maker. I'll stick one under my microscope and post a picture in a little while...

I could not get a picture with the microscope because it's magnification is too high. I couldn't even fit half of the bug in the frame. So I got a couple of shots with the digicam on supermacro mode and then trimmed them with Irfanview... Here they are.

My tank has thousands of these and other little creatures in it. Maybe I need to get something that will eat them???

Thanks Rock, you nailed that for sure... I guess they aren't bothering the cucumber hopefully.

Hi Daywn, heat is under control for the most part. It got a little warm in the house today and the tank was up to 83. Not great but OK I guess. Of couse, the lights are only going for about 3.5 hours right now

Speaking of heat, I just got the fans in that I'm going to put over the sump / fuge. I also have a piece of acrylic that I'm going to try to make a bracket/holder with to mount them on... I also ordered some different (less noisy) fans that will mount in the walls of the stand to blow air in one end and out the other. Those haven't arrived yet...

Randy and Marc,

Thanks for the references on the hosting cos. I will have to give them consideration. In the mean time I'm going to rebuild my linux server better and more secure... Hah! Good luck me! :)

Wow Randy, when you first said he looked like Mr. Hanky, I thought you were exaggerating!! WOW that guy sure looks unique.

Glad Mr. Hanky isn't getting eaten... :)

Great - I was thinking all along that it was a great thing having all of those little pods in the tank. Then I started worrying that maybe they are BAD. I'm glad to hear they are good guys.

So I have a DSB question. My tank has been running for about 6 weeks. I am seeing bubbles forming against the glass in the sand. I have been increasing the photoperiod so slowly that I haven't had any real algae problems yet. I have some light dusting of green on the baserock that the cleaning crew is keeping up with. I have some darker algae on the LR where there is no coraline, but that is also not at nuisance levels. I'm wondering if I should invest in some sort of POD recharge package to get some diversity in the sand. I'm not sure if my tank should be more or less mature before adding this or what. Waste of time and money? Good idea?

The bubbles in the sandbed are normal. That is part of dentrification. If you've not seeded the sandbed with a cup of live sand from an exisiting setup (another hobbyist's tank or one from the LFS), you might want to do that.

Adding pods now won't hurt, but I don't believe you need it at this point.

I picked up some inexpensive acrylic a couple of weeks ago. The piece in this picture was only $2. I decided to try to make a fan mounting bracket from it, to either sit across or hang over my fuge. I've seen yours Marc, but I didn't have any acrylic glue, so I just figured I'd use a heat gun and bend it into a U shape of approx. the right dimensions. I'm going to attach the fans to it with zip ties, but maybe with blobs of silicone between the fan corners and bracket as vibration dampeners. The fans are all 12 VDC. I also got a 12 VDC, 2.1A transformer to run all four of them.

As an experiment I bent a smaller piece into a handy bracket that hangs on my fuge tub and holds my salinity meter. It works so perfect! Now I want to get some glue and start making lots of acrylic doo-dads LOL...

Anyway, here are the fans and the acrylic sheet

And then after I bent it

I'm pretty happy with it! I need to cut four 4.5" diameter holes in it, and also need to cut four of those holes in my stand for some other fans. So I went out and bought a decent hole saw set and a separate 4.5" hole saw. Previously I had a small set that I bought at Harbor Freight for about $3 - total POS. So tomorrow I'll get some fans set up finally...

This is really wierd problem. I have a 72" maristar fixture. Sometimes, when the MH at one end shuts off, it sometimes causes the two T5's at the other end of the fixture to shut off. The other two T5 lamps stay on! Could there be some type of EM interference between the T5's and the MH? Anyone else see this?

The T5's are all wired together, so I can't figure out how two T5 lamps cut out while the other two stay lit. It's like there is some sort of EM interference that happens when the MH lamp cuts off.
