Thanks Paul and Dawn! The rock was really nice. I think I spotted a couple of pest anemone's. I nuked them with boiling hot water in a turkey baster. Just stuck the tip right on them and oh-so-slowly squeezed the scortching water out to cook them :thumbsup: If you guys are heading up here any time soon, I'd love to get a little more rock from you. I'd meet you where ever is convenient to you. Just let me know

I know what you mean, when I got back from vacation a few weeks ago I had notifications from 83 different threads.
I think I had RC burn out. I unsubscribed from all threads except about 5 or 6. It's been a nice break but I'm starting to miss some of the people/tanks so I'll have to track them down again and catch up, I think if I can keep it to 15 or so I can manage.
I find if I'm not careful I spend so much time or RC I don't get any work done on my tank.

I know you've seen a million pictures of Linckia's but I'm going to post a few more anyway! I love these things. I sure hope they do well in my tank. My biggest concern is that I don't have auto topoff so the salinity varies when I top the tank off each night. And when I dose two part the alk and ph get kicked up.
The little red one wasn't in a very good picture spot and they are a little blurry as well. I think I need to re-read melev's photo tips :lol:
I did manage to get some really cool (IMO) macro shots of the blue one though. I love that pattern of dots it has on it.

Wow, those look fantastic Randy!!! I think I'll have to keep my eyes out at the LFS for a red and blue one. I think they'd look great in my tank as well.
Hey, how much does your brittle star still move around? Mine is sitting under a rock; it's been there sweeping it's tentacles in and out for about 2 months or so.

Mine are the same. The big bristle comes out once in a while, at night.
I have two others that I got with my first LR purchase back at the beginning of December. They are light tan/grey with dark gray rings. I have never seen either one come out from under their rocks. I used to target feed them occasionally, but I stopped because I want to motivate them to move around the tank. But afaik they have never moved anywhere...
DOSING!
I am doing my second batch of DIY two part. I used a gallon of two part in about one month. I started dosing the DIY on 2/24 and ran out today. My tank is sucking that stuff up, especially considering I have NO SPS in my tank. Lots of coraline and snail shells I guess

I went as far as pulling the rock my brittle was under up and moving him somewhere else; but he crawled right back. :lol:
You know, I went through my first batch like mad too. Then all of a sudden one day the demand dropped off to nothing. Sure I dose a tiny here and there, but I'm definitely not using up much at all.
I think the initial coraline spurt before I added the halides was using up lots, but the halides seemed to have halted corraline growth for now.. We'll see.. It's starting to pick up a bit now.
Hey, how's that neat bottle brush macro doing? Has it grown at all?

My halides seem to burn the coraline off the rock at first then it starts coming back. I have a massive coraline spurt right now. That must be where most of it is going.
The shaving brush macro has died back. I'm not sure if it will come back or what. I'm just leaving it alone for now. I'm going to get another one or two the next time I'm over there at Sea In The City (if they have any left). It was not really getting full halide light. I'm not sure if it needed more or less light or what. Marcye at the fish store says that when the die back the send out a runner to make a new plant. So maybe a new one will pop up somewhere...

That must've been what happened to my coralline then. It was blooming like mad on the rocks (never on the glass for some reason) when I was just running T5s. As soon as the halides went in it kinda bleached back except in shaded areas. Now it's starting to come back slowly. Guess I gotta be patient!
Keep an eye out for clumps in your sand; I don't know what I did wrong dosing, but I ended up with some chunks of bound sand here and there...
Do you know if that macro requires a DSB? I just think it's so neat to have some plantlife growing in the main tank...

I have some patches on the plumbing and especially the back glass that seem to be covered with thousands of super tiny feather dusters. It's hard to get a picture of them. But each little white speck has a smaller little speck of orange feather.
Each of those little white specks is a little feather duster! Maybe I'm overfeeding the invert/filter feeder food

LOL it's a good thing they're reef safe. I don't see myself getting rid of them any time soon! I've heard of people complaining when featherdusters take over an area of the reef. My tank is so bare that I'm happy to have that stuff growing... Also those sharp little things that I read are a type of immobile snail? I have those things growing all over the place as well. I was following a thread where a guy went in there with pliers or something and was picking them off his rock. I think it's really cool that this stuff is starting to cover the rocks and equipment. To me that stuff and the coraline means that the tank is on the right track.
