I think you should try getting some brine eggs and hatch them yourself.....this is rally easier then it sounds and could possibly save her!

Thanks for the live brine Idea, but I dont like feeding SW fish brine, because its got hardly any nutritional value to it and they dont eat it in the ocean.

however, I did go and get some blackworms and she is readily eatting those like mad.!


Is there any special way I can ween her off the worms and onto some mysis?

maybe try mixing the 2 together - she may eat some mysis by mistake.

I HIGHLY dought she would eat it by mistake..

She is BARELY eatting the worms... looking at them INTENSELY before she takes one.

NO WAY she is going to mistaken it. And she will only eat the worms if they start wriggleing around.

I didn't realize blackworms got eaten in the ocean (unlike live brine)?!:bum:

Seriously, live brine is what I use to train my mandarins on. Simply enrich with something like Selcon before feeding...once they take live brine with gusto they can usually make the switch to frozen without too many issues...afterall it's the same size, looks the same, probably doesn't smell all that different, and when it's in the water current moves pretty much like the living stuff does.

funny, In general, Blackworms have more nutrition than brine.

Unless I'm missing something, blackworms aren't going to have the appropriate HUFA's and such anyways...I think it's easier to enrich live brine and following that, it's easier to switch them onto frozen brine once they're eating live brine. THEN you start mixing in the mysis.

Besides, how many countless baby fish are raised on brine nauplii....it's not like brine has nothing to offer, and well, if the blenny isn't all that keen on live blackworms (that usually go NUTS when they hit saltwater) I'd really reconsider your aversion to the live brine. It works with mandarins...

Im just sooo iffy on Brine in feeding SW fish because it is not a natural food source, ... which I know Blackworms isn't either...

Not familiar with Zoecon, but any of those Selcon, Super Selco type enrichment formulas should help.

I understand your concern for unnatural foods. However, at times like this, you must do anything that works. Since these fish are primarily planktonic feeders to begin with (feeding on some benthic organisms also), fare such as live brine is a good choice.

Good news is her is now readily accepting blackworms... and acctually comes up to get some right out of the water column...

she now has been grabbing them even if they arent moveing a whole lot.
