Rare lionfish or what?

Sadly, I don't think I can get this guy. I just want a Volitans in the 210 too much. And I don't want to risk this guy being a very expensive lunch in the future. :L Really stinks. I know that later on in life I'll hate myself for not snatching it up immediantly. Do...whatever this fish is, Mombassae/ Antennata, do they act like Volitans? Like, do they get all "excited" when they see someone? My gorgeous Dwarf Zebra does, and my Dwarf Fuzzy does.

We have both species, and they're pretty much just like all of our other lions (we currently have 6 species)...they love to worship the food gods.

I have to admit, as cool as the other lion species are, there's something about the sheer "presence" of a full grown P. volitans.

cool looking fish- wish i had room or a spare tank.
its most likely a P Antennata w/ a weird/unique body pattern. I truely dont see any other characteristic or key identifiers which would give me an indictation that its anything but a P Antennata.
The other close second-could be a P mombassae, but the pec fins are not correct

Do you think my 65g would be overfull to add him in? Right now it has the two fus, the fuzzy, melanurus wrasse and a filefish. What do you think? He's big enough at 4 inches that they won't eat him... you can never tell with the piggy though (the fuzzy!).

Any thoughts? The system can handle it just not sure if there is enough psychological space. The lions do fine together in the 65g now -- in fact every morning all three lions are out swimming around and begging for food. I just think that fish is very cool looking...

This one ...corals are a bit bigger now though but still all softies.

So that would make the tank 19" front-to-back, right?

You'd probably be OK with the fish since the fu's are "ground pounders", so there should be room in the water column.

I tried calling them to see what he is eating right now but they closed early today I guess. I went for it. Arriving Wednesday morning.

Mental1, you'll have to put up pictures for me ( and everyone else I guess :) ) when he's in your tank! Softies? Isn't that a Montipora in the middle? Oh, wait, is that the kind of sponge I've been searching for?? Not sure how, or if, you frag sponges, but feel free to send me a piece whenever you want! :D

given $600 to spare, if ur rele set on a rare lion...u shud get a blackfoot or peppermint...both are japanese cold water species

Bluefins (blackfoot) are REALLY tough to keep and rarely make it more than a month or two. However, we've managed to keep one for a bit over a year now, but it has taken a lot of work to get it that far. We keep it at 63*F in a dedicated setup. This fish is the least agressive feeder out of any of the lions we keep.

It is a plating sponge and it grows like a weed! I don't know where you are located but I am always tearing/cutting pieces off, giving them away, throwing them away! Come by anytime and I will give you a big chunk -- I have it growing in my geriatric tank too!

I don't know what he is eating so he will not be going into this tank right away. The fu's have been trained by the fuzzy and are quite aggressive eaters. He will actually be joining my new little angler in a tank -- they will be separated by eggcrate so no worries -- until I can get him weaned. And he has a long trip so I think a mellow place to adapt to my system is called for. Then I can see what he's eating and get a sense for how long it will take me to transition him. I also want to look at his size and make sure he can go in there safely. They say 4 inches but I want to eyeball him. So I will post pics of him and the angler in their basement tank. That tank will eventually just be the angler's solitary home.

Nice fish! I'm glad you bought him - otherwise I would have, and I already have an antennata and a mombassa, and a life that's way too crazy and busy! :)
