Rate my tank

Hello all,

this is my 75 gallon mixed reef. What do you think of the layout? I feel like its missing something coral and fish wise. Any comments/suggestions?

29 gallon sump/fuge w cheato dsb live rock rubble
Phosban reactor
Swc 150bmk skimmer
2 Tunze 6100 controllable pump
2 x 250 watt MH 14k bulbs
2 x 54 actinic + bulbs

Livestock:
5 blue green chromis
Yellow tang
2 false clowns
Long nose hawkfish
6 line wrasse

Ok so you asked for comments...At first glance IMO I think it appears cluttered. You have some great pieces that lose some of their luster because they get lost in the aquascaping. It seems that you have quite a few frags that could be placed on some rock rather than just on the substrate. If you readjusted some of those and let them grow in I think your tank would be amazing. Just my thoughts though.

The zoa frags on the sand bed were moved due to the growth of a rbta that resides in the middle of the tank. The sand bed was only intended for an acan garden and the clam.

also consider that the plating montipora that you have placed at the top of your rock will grow out in all directions and will eventually shade everything below it. i always mount plating corals near the bottom of my rock

I would think that with ten fish that you are already pushing the envelope with fish bioload especially with the tang. If you want some new fish, then you need to get rid of some of the smaller fish perhaps some or all of the chromis. Maybe replace all five chromis with a slightly larger 'flashier' fish like an anthias. You could even go with some of the smaller angelfish (reef safe with caution)or butterfly fish (some are reef safe with caution). The angels and butterfly fish require you to take the chance that they may nip corals (or they may not...depends on the fish). If you don't want to get rid of any of your current fish, then I would not add any more.

I would really concentrate more on corals and less on fish. Add some corals that really move with the flow...torch, hammer, frogspawn. Add some colorful corals too. You can also add to the tank's color with macroalgae and sponges. If you get sponges, make sure you have enough flow first and you will likely need to spot feed them too. If you get colorful macros, your tang will likely eat some so keep a fresh stock of the macroalgae growing in your fuge. You can always remove from sump to the main tank when the tank eats the macro up. Macros in the main tank are also a good source of food for the tang.

You need a central, show piece soft coral and less rock. I had a 75 gallon that was sps dominant, but my favorite coral was a volleyball sized Sinularia flexibilis that swayed in the current. It's white color made for pleasant contrast with the pinks and oranges that dominated the aquarium.

You're tank looks healthy, just needs some more visual appeal, IMO.

P.S. What kind of wave makers are those?

What do you have for fish in this thing now? Did the chromis end up killing each other? Tang gone?

I had 5 chromis, after hurricane sandy I gave a fellow reefer a clownfish and a chromis to restart their tank. I think the ratio changed everything regarding the aggression in them I'm down to one chromis. My livestock is as follows.

Clownfish pair
Bi color Anthias
Purple queen Anthias x 2
Yellow tang
Leopard wrasse
Blue/green chromis
Hi finned goby

Tunze 6100s I removed 60-75 lbs of lr since the post in 2011
