Rate These Skimmers

Well, in my opinion the three BEST skimmers are Deltec, H&S, and Bubble King. However, most people do not want to spend the money for the best ones as some of their benefits are of lesser value to them than they are to me. Personally, I have two Bubble Kings and could not be happier. However, I have some very expensive livestock that I am protecting and tend to overskim.

There is always a tendency to think that whatever one owns is the best unless it is not working for them at all.

Thank you for all the feedback, but i still havent sorted out a clean answer.

Your not grasping the idea. You are asking the forum to spend your money. Not exactly how it works. If we said buy the BK, you would respond with "too expensive", or if we recommended the Red Sea that would be an injustice.

All skimmers have strengths and weakness. Pick one that has the features that you want.

If you get it wrong, most people do when purchasing the first and second skimmer, try again.

Yeah I understand, I have a CSS 65 on my 30g reef and dont really like it that much. The skimmate isnt dark, it fills too fast, always tinkering with it, overflows often, I have it off right now for that reason.

Because of my experience with this needle wheel skimmer I am leaning towards the becket style. I did more research on the Trigger Systems TS150 and it looks to be very suitable for my needs.

is the css 65 a coralife skimmer? From my experience with that company, pretty much anything that has their name on is means it's JUNK!!

Other NW skimmers that are properly designed/built will not need constant tinkering, overflow or have any of the other issues you mentioned.

I have a G3 on my 90g & I am less then impressed with it. It's to difficult to fine tune & I need to spend another $30-50 on the gate vave mod then it should be OK. The collection cup is also a PITA to remove

For a 120g I would do what Rob states & get a skimmer with at least a 8 in body. The g4x would work or something from one of the numerous other skimmer companies.

You can also do what I did. I searched the classifieds from this site & found my ER RC-500 there. I wans't stuck on a certain brand/manufacturer I just wanted something large & the ER popped up. You can get skimmers for half of what the retail stores sell them for. Getting one used you will be able to buy a much larger/better skimmer for the same price you were planning on spending with a new one.

I would go with the ASM G3. I have one and love it! I find the ASMs cup really easy to remove, in fact I take off the neck and cup every time to clean both, simple. If you mod it try the mesh wheel mod, works well.

HEY man I've used multiple skimmers over 10, years in the hobby
from cheap proclear to deltec and currently i have an etss pro 800
I treally depends on your setup and goals. U certainly dont wanna have something that just covers ur volume better more than less. As far as any particular etss technology IMO is superior but who am I LOL

If i were u I'll be getting my hands on some reading before posting and then make a decision between 2 or three of the market models and stick with it,
