RBTA, Fish Eating Risks?

Hi All,

I have a 40 long that I have setup basically for a large RBTA that I do not risk in my display tank because I do not want it moving and stinging my prized SPS corals.

In this tank there is a pair of banggai and that is all. I had a pair of clowns but have since moved them to a different tank.

My main question is how likely are RBTAs to eat/injure a fish? Specifically a multicolor angel?

I ask because I have a 2.5-3" multicolor angel that is getting ready to come out of QT and I have two more smaller multicolors ready to go into QT (picking them up tomorrow from the LFS). The plan is to add all three together at somepoint in the display tank that is a 220. I am wondering about using the 40L as a holding/pairing tank. The larger angel would be added to this tank tomorrow then when the others finished up they QT/medications they would then be added to the 40L as well to get all three eating well together before going in the display tank.

I obviously do not want to risk any of thse angels by housing them with the RBTA if they will likely get injured/hurt. I know carpets are fish eaters but unsure about RBTAs.

Give me your thoughts.

I'm new but haven't read anything about a RBTA eating or hurting any fish that isn't already injured or dead.

If there is a risk, I'm sure having clowns hosting would greatly reduce it.

I have a RBTA on one side of my tank and a GBTA on the other and yet to experience any problems.

I have 5 RBTA's in two tanks. Most fish are smart enough to stay away from them. However in the past few years my RBTA's have eaten two coral banded shrimp and one Royal Gramma.

While it is possible that the RBTA will kill and eat a fish, but I doubt it will happen. I've had a GBTA with a mandarin for over a year and a half with no problems. The angels aren't small by any means either. I would have no problems putting them together in my tank.

I'd be willing to bet that your RBTA is not going to turn out to be a fish eating monster. Unless your anemone is very large in a cramped space and your fish isn't the brightest bulb in the box, there's a low likelihood that they will come into contact with each other. I've kept BTAs with many different sizes of fish and have never lost one. Right now I have 11 of them in one of my tanks with no casualties. A weak or dying fish that gets pushed into its tentacles by your flow is a different issue.
