RBTA Problem!?

I got this RBTA a couple of days ago. The rest of the day after it went into the tank it looked really good. Then the next day while the light was on it looked wilted. Then this morning before the light was on it looked really good, then during the first hour of lights on it looked really good.

When I bought it, it looked really good and was under PCs. Now it is in a 12 gallon nano cube DX under PCs...I just dont understand why it would look better without lights?

You might want to cut back on the lighting a little bit to give it some time to adjust to your lighting. Otherwise just be patient.

Hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like it might be starting to split. Is its oral disk on top or is that its foot on top? My true rose bta's turn themselves upside down when they split themselves, freaked me out at first but once they finish splitting they attach right-side up again.

I agree with Red Sonja, your Rose looks to be splitting. Best to leave it alone, try to lower the water current or no direct strong water flow. Avoid feeding it for about 2 weeks or till the mouth is fully healed.

Do you have clowns hosting it ? If you can separate them, your rose will heal much faster and less risk of dying.

Best of Luck.

there is a clown in the tank, but he isnt going near it, there is also no direct flow and there is little current by it. I guess I will just keep my eye on it

If you weren't so far away I'd say when it finishes splitting I want a clone. ;)

Sometimes they take several days to split themselves.

Yep...it's splitting indeed...congrats!

However, they sometimes split due to stress, so keep an eye on the clones. Hopefully they'll be healthy and recover quickly for you.

Don't try to feed for a few days, and I've heard that a normal 10% water change once they've finished splitting sometimes helps. For some reason I want to say that running carbon sounds like a good idea, but please don't take my word for that until someone else confirms...I'd hate for something to happen to your nem based on my poor advice.

the water conditions are nice and stable and it was being fed, but it did change to new lighting so that may be a source of stress. I will keep an update going when I see change, thanks for the fast responses.

Lucky son of a gun, it's splitting on you. For some reason it seems that BTA's seem to split right after an enviornmental change. I have a local reefer friend that sells BTA clones and when he want's them to split, he just does a big water change. The next day they split. Maybe the same has happened with you. I think it's some kind of survival instint for the animal to clone itself so it's got a better chance of survival.

It appears that it is bleaching too, not just splitting. Look at your pictures of when you just first got your RBTA and now look at you latter picture.

The last picture seems like it is losing zooxanthellae algae compared to when you first got it. How old is your nano? It looks like it is under 5 months old.
