RC search

Does anyone else have trouble using the RC search? I know we just had a discussion on flat worms. What was the color for good? And fire worms...they are ok right? Unless you grab a big one...

I believe you have to have the premium membership for the search funtion. I never been able to search for anything here.

Most flatworms are good. White ones are normally fine. YOu have to keep an eye on the red ones, but just because they are red doesn't mean that they are bad.

Fireworms/Bristleworms are generally good, also. There are a few you need to keep an eye out for; Eunice sp, Oenone fulgida, and Hermodice carunculata are some of the more common Polychaete worm bad guys.

The server load on RC is extremely high, and you can find most of the answers here as to why: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=714296

But, you can get around it a little by following either of this information:

You need a paid membership or search at "off peak times" The best thing I found is to do a advance search on google and search only reefcentral.com. It will get some things but not everything.

I guess I will see what other sites have to say. Would have been nice to hear what my Okie peers have to say.

Serra - looking at the logs, about 50% of your searches have been successful. Of the ones that failed, most of them have been in the afternoon and evening.

I only looked back a couple of months because we made some changes that helped with the problem around that time. In that time you've made 8 searches and 6 of the were successful.

Cheers

Just go to google and put in what you are looking for followed by site:reefcentral.com, i.e. you could try this line "flatworms COMAS site:reefcentral.com" and see what comes up. Just an alternative when the search function on RC too occupied.

It's a little more time consuming, but if you know roughly where it is at, say the COMAS forum, Ctrl+F brings up your web browser's search feature. If you go to the COMAS Forum 1st page, Ctrl+F, type Flatworms, and hit Find Next, it'll either find the word or tell you it's not on the page. In the case that it's not on the page, just move on to page two.
