RDSB - Remote Deep Sand Bed Benefits - 2014

I carbon dose with vinegar, use a small amount of gfo, and have a RDSB in my fuge. At this point I'm sure the sand could go bye bye without any ill effects on the system. However, for now it is staying in place simply as a place for small critters to grow and do their thing. I'm hoping that at the very least it is beneficial in this regard. Otherwise, I will be removing the sand bed and just running macros and maybe some seachem pond matrix as a LR rubble substitute

I use to have a oceanic 37 gall with DSP and hang on fuge nothing else and ran it for 3 years. Was the best looking tank I even had. Getting ready to setup a DSA 105 SPS tank but going bare bottom for higher waterflow but am looking to doing a 20-30 fuge with 6" DSB in it.

Ignore the white pvc. That was my attempt to add more flow in there but I don't think its really doing much so I was going to remove it anyway.

The two tanks that you have on that stamped metal Home Depot rack are concerning. I own the exact same ones and use them in my garage. I would not be comfortable having that much mass with such a high center of gravity on a rack that is freestanding and has verticle members stacked one on top of another. I'm not judging here, just pointing out something that you may not have considered.

Hi all, just put in my removable DSB last weekend. Using a tall 1 gallon container about 5x5x10 (I'm guessing on the volume... It's Tupperware) with about 8 inches of dead argonite sand. Should I add some snails and such to it?

Hi Lou,
They are not Home Depot racks.
I went to an independent commercial boltless shelving place, talked to the guy, and got a shelving unit specifically for my needs. It's rock solid and could hold a lot more weight than it is. :)

Im building about a 1400 gallon system with a 480 gallon display tank. Im planning on setting up a 300g stock tank as a fuge, with a RDSB. I had a dsb over a decade ago. I enjoyed the life it contained. I had the infamous South Down Sand back then in it and loved it. I just wish I could find a replacement that was as cheap as it was.

How much flow are ya'll running in your rdsb's?
