RE: UV lighting?

I think that a UV is counter productive for a reef tank. I mean you want stuff swimming around in your water to help feed your corals right?

Im actually looking to put a UV on my tank (120g). I had one for a while but then it took a s**t. Since (not sure if its a coincidence) ive had a green hair algae problem that I can seem to lick. Any suggestions on a good model (of sterilizer) for 120g, or nano (as not to hijack the thread)

I have a 40W Emperor, it is well made and easy to change the bulb.

You went all out on the UV. :D

Emperor is better then AquaUV, but darn expensive.

nice read thanks Mike- i've always read UV is basically useless especially most units marketed toward us(underpowered), never knew about the phosphate thing, sounds promising. But I want to know the story of BOMBER-spill it Mike.

Bomber is still around... just not around here anymore. We'll talk about it when we get these frags to you.

Did you get your skimmer yet? :)

oh yeah! I got it. Its pretty sweet looking. I gave it a nice long vinegar run and its ready to go, I got it Tuesday. I'll hopefully get it installed sometime next week, go some replumbing to do for the new sump i made to do first.

I got an amazingly good deal on it from Adam the new(ish) owner of the Naperville petland when he bought the store.

Anyone use one of the JBJ submersible ones? I like the fact its nice and small. Was going to order a UV soon, just not sure which one. Was also looking at the smaller turbo twist. They both seemed small.

Should I not bother with them and just mount an aquauv?

here's my sump, pretty standard, 75 aga. i gotta redo my baffles as i used acylic and i am not happy(perfectionist) knew about the issue with acylic but i thoughti t would work but for me it doesn't, going glass. sorry about the TOTAL HIJACK.

one popped out of place, its only been 2 weeks and i expect more to come loose. I guess i should have used a lot more silicone but i wanted it to have a real clean look. I figure if i use glass i can get away with less silicone because it has much better adhesion to glass.
