I have a monster hammer coral that's grown from, oh, about 3 heads to probably over 50, and it's the size of a soccer ball. I set it in the cup of a montipora foliosa that hadn't survived the move, and it grew, and grew, and grew. And grew.
Now I'd sort of like to frag it, as I only have a 54g wedge tank. But looking it over---it almost looks as if it has grown a support structure: it's a column the same size and same whitish color as the branch tissue, but it has no tentacles, is covered in living tissue, is reaching straight down, and butts up onto the rim of the old montipora cup.
Has anybody ever had a euphyllia do this? Or have I simply got a very regular whitish sponge growing in an oddly columnar form?
