really long red hair algae...help!!!

Im cycling my tank for about 2 months now and i just got home from work and saw this patch of red stuff on my sand and long 2 inches coming from it. Is this red hair algea?? I missed a couple water changes. What should i do?? I want to solve this problem asap because i dont want it out of control.

start doing water changes, i would say start with 20% a week, paramaters would be helpful also. it sounds like possibly some cyano, which could also be from over feeding, or high nitrates/ low flow areas. you should let us know what kind of flow you have in the tank(ie power heads, overflow ect.) and how often you are feeding.

That's not algae, I suspect, it's cyanobacteria, one of the planet's oldest organisms...it gave us the oxygen we breathe, but it's a pita in the tank.
Is your tank in a room with windows? Shut the blinds during the day. Do your water changes. If you're not using ro/di, do. Feed sparingly. And if none of that works, cut off your lights for 3 days and bring them up with actinic only on the 4th day. Skim hard. 5th day back to regular lights.

I got a HOB refugium with some LS, Cheato, and LR. I got a MJ1200 with a hydor flo on it and a aquaclear 300 which pumps 176gph. I think during sunset that area of the tank gets shined. I dont overfeed but my baby sister fed the last 2 days becase i was working a 12hr shift. She might be the culprit. I'll do the water change and monitor the situation closly the next few days which i wont be working. How should i get rid of whats already there tho. Thanks ppl

if you have any airline long enough, syphon out what you can. if you put you hand gently under it, you can remove some that way also. but the above mentioned work best a whole, not in part.
