my occ clown has been doing great until tonight. he had been eating a ton soince i got rods food.

tonight i thought he was hosting my frag cup, he was swimming right by it. i went to feed them, and he didnt move from the cup. normally he attacks the food. this time he didnt care. the other clown tore up the food. since the other one didnt bother eating, my other clown at all of it.

the clown that didnt eat looks like he has a full belly, but he didnt eat anything today. he is just swimming over the cup. normally i have seen clown hosting things they kind of swim back and forth, and up and down. he is just flapping his side fins and kind of bobbing side to side, kind of like he is drunk.

he has no spots/marks on his body anywhere, his fins arent torn up, they are in perfect shape and his coloring is fine

when i open the lid for feeding time, they both typically swim up to the top. the clown that ate did that, but this one didnt.

i checked my numbers with my test kits
i show 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, ph is 8.2, nitrate i am not positive because i always get different results. i just did a water change on saturday so i am sure they are fine. my salinity is 1.023 (it has always been that)

had he eaten, i wouldnt have thought anything except maybe he was hosting the cup...only he didnt eat, which is not like him. i feed 1 time per day.

i hope this is enough info.

Sounds like you may have a mama clown there. I would observe and see if the clown in question pecks at any of the near by surfaces. It looks wierd but they 'clean' an area in the days leading up to laying eggs. If its the larger clown, its most likely (Ok it is) the female and given your description, no photo, it sounds like she may be with egg(s). GL!

yeah. i was shocked that not a single person on this forum even had the slightest idea
:sad2:

Yup dont feel bad... I have another post going on this thread where I am questioning pre and post spawn behavior and got like 1 reply... I dont think many of the folks on this thread know much about the subject...

My false Perc just went throught the EXACT same issues... I was worried about Brook or Ich but so far he/she is doing well and has started eating again. Mine didnt eat for 3-4 days, kept to the same 5x5 area, and wasnt "acting" normal either... after a few days all is good again...

Just make sure you have everything set to treat for disease in case things go south. Other than that I am afraid you wont find much help here...

Good luck!

I have a juvi, maroon doing the same thing. Kind of looks dead in his BTA, drunk when out of it, and not too interested in eating.

Assuming you haven't seen any pre spawn behavior it sounds like you may have a swim bladder infection or possibly a parasite. If you aren't seeing stringy poop then its likely a swim bladder infection. If its worse today you'll need to pull the fish out and treat it. I'd go with either Erythromycin or Nitrofurazone. How long have you had this fish and how old is it?

"I have another post going on this thread where I am questioning pre and post spawn behavior and got like 1 reply"

Questions regarding spawning should be in the fish breeding forum not here. People that breed frequent that area more regularly and It gives you more of a chance of getting a useful reply from someone who knows what they are talking about.

it is a juvi clown, so i am fairly sure it isnt spawning

the clown is doing better last night. swimming and eating like normal.

i did find that when i fed him formula 2 pellets he got that bobbing side to side thing a bit. maybe he is having trouble digesting it, so i am not going to feed hiim that.

Was he surface feeding? Some clowns tend to suck in air and have trouble getting rid of it.
I'm glad to hear he's doing better!

my fish wasnt eating at the top. i am not sure what was going on. either the food, or the new lighting i got stressed him. he is fine now.
