Had to pull a fish. Ended up taking the tank apart to get it out.

What cha think?

leaps and bounds better. i personally like the look of multiple piles/towers of rock vs. one big pile in the middle. i think it would be cool if you could incorporate a couple large openings in the rock for fish to swim through. i know you have smaller ones, but big ones really add to the appearance too.

Thanks for the compliments and suggestions. There is actually a clear space between each of the towers but looking at the pic it's hard to tell.

I have a hard time getting larger openings without showing too much plumbing. Under the rock is aboout 10' of PVC I use as spraybars to run my CL return. It took a lot to get those (drills, rods etc) but I do think you are right.

I'll find a pic . .

Thanks everyone. It really makes those 8 hours of redoing the tank so much easier to look back on knowing that it's not just me who thinks it looks better.

There definetly is more swim room. None of the rocks touch the back all (well alomost none of them) so they can actually swim rings or 8's around the tank. Kinda more fun to watch too.

Good work Pleder! Much better!!!!!

You were my inspiration Stunts. I'm kinda serious though. The little shelf thing totally makes it but it loos so flat in the pictures.

it must be just me. i think the first pic is better. i like the low profile rock work. i like the 2 islands concept but only if the gap is wider. i think the gap you have is a bit too narrow to make a great visual impact for the islands. and i think the islands are too tall. :) just my thoughts.

To each his own dude. I obviously liked the way it looked before too. Had it like that for a couple years. ;)

I would like a bit more space between the gaps too, but wanted to leave enough room on the sides and when the right side was pushed over it looked a bit off. I wish the tank was a bit longer. Right now the islands are about 4" away from each other at the closest points. and about a foot at the farthest points.

Thanks again to everyone for the replies.

The origional looks more natural to me but the second one is more interesting to the viewer and the fish. As long as you, the one who puts all of the work into the tank, think it looks better than what we think is irrelevant. Nice work!

Nice bommies! I went with a similar layout, though no internal supports like you have and my rocks are lower in the tank (70 lbs. live rock just didn't go as far as I thought... should have got 100 :sigh: )

I love the split look myself... but now I want a 120 gallon (4'x2'x2') so I can leave a clean strip of sand in the front and a larger space in the middle... I've only had water in my tank for a week or so and I'd tear it all down and start over if I had the money to upgrade the tank, lights, skimmer, calc reactor, etc.

Keep up the good work and make sure to post some more pics as things progress!!
