received anemone through the mail, water fouled - what to do?

Shipped nems often arrive looking fairly thrashed, and water will usually look pretty dirty.
I'd do a slow drip acclimation, and keep an eye on it.

if it is really foul, dirty and smelly, i would suggest a quick aclimation. Float method putting a scoop of tank water in the bag every couple mins, say for 15ish mins. No lights!!

well there is little bits in the water and it's cloudy/slighty red (colour of the nem) ..and I know the nem is not dyed as it came from a fellow reefer who's had it for over a year

Yeah, the smell factor is a good point, but if nem was melting, smelling that water, you'd know it, and would be too busy hurling to type!

I'm just worried it's expelled waste during shipping and the water is full of ammonia.. i'll open the bag just now to smell. I usually leave the bags sealed til up to temp.

That water shouldn't go in display anyway.
I usually place in a container to hold nem/present water, and place that in a 5g bucket, and drip into small container letting it overflow into 5g.
I usually give about an hour or 2 depending on situation.

Well I opened it and the water smells a little. Not much though, definately not horrid.

I usually give my nems 3 hrs drip, should I give this one less?

No, go w/ what you feel, slow is good.
If water was truly fouled, you seriously would not be at the keys right now.

Should smell a bit like the ocean. From your description, it sounds fine. Go with the slow drip. I would think you'd do more harm than good in a fast acclimation right now when it really isn't warranted.

IMHO a fast acclimation is like a last-ditch effort when something is GOING to die. As in, "you can do this and it will probably still die, but if you don't it's definitely dead." But from what you mention, it sounds fine.

so it's been 2 hrs, i lifted the nem and noticed alot of it's tentacles were breaking away, the tentacles are VERY tattered. The pedal disc etc is 100% intact and not falling apart or injured.

It is upside down on the rock, I tried to flip it once, don't wanna mess with it and noticed a small corner of it's foot is attached to the rock.

Any experiences with this guys?
