Recent fish pictures under LED lighting

Well, I got a new light a week ago and definitely like it better than the old fluorescent I was using. I'm surprised how much heat it is still putting out, it's more than I thought. You can touch the entire 36" fixture and be OK, but I wouldn't want to leave my hand on it all day. And the transformer that the electricity goes through gets HOT, almost burn you hot. But as far as light quality goes, it's nice. The fish look good and I've got that metal halide look of shimmer now in the tank.

Notice in this first picture, you can see the individual LED lights shining down through the eye of the yellow tang.

Beautiful pictures! I LOVE the Queen Trigger. It is a Queen Trigger, right? I would love to have one, but from what I've heard they are too "big and bad" for any of my tanks. The Purple Tang is a real looker too. My LEDs get pretty warm, but they are no where near as hot as metal halides. Again, very lovely pics.

The LEDs themselves arent too bad, the transformer in the cord is crazy hot. But yep, the tank itself isnt getting heated like a MH would do.

Thanks btw, and yes, that is a queen trigger. I also hear they get pretty mean. Right now mine is around 5" and is docile as can be. I plan on moving her to species only tank when the time comes, for right now she does good in the community tank.

you should also click picture of your LED's who did the wonder.
I'm trying hard to fathom what you're saying but it isnt making sense to me.

Nice shots, recty. Which LED fixture are you running, or did you DIY them?

Semiconductors do get warm, as you're finding out. This is especially true of devices that run at higher drive currents.

i some ich on the bottom of the powder blue tang fins...

jk man! nice pics!
Hah :) That would be really irritating, I've worked hard to keep my tank ich free.

sorry, I was actually asking a picture of the light fixture.
I gotcha. I'll try to snap one, although you can look them up on the internet and get a better picture I'm sure.

Nice pictures there! Those fish look great under the leds.
Thanks!

NICEEEE... I love triggers eyes, they look like mini globes or planets...
Yep. Queen triggers and goldhearts have almost the exact same looking eyes, very cool looking.

I work with electronics for a living... I've never seen a transformer get as hot as these do. Some of the laptops I support get hot over time but nothing like this, it seems almost out of spec hot, like it would burn me if I touched it very long.

I'm using the Marineland Reef Capable 36-48" strip. I thought about getting the much cheaper non reef ready but from what I've read it's very yellow.

I'm glad I went with this one, although I wish the whole center of it was blue LEDs, not just 5 of the lights. The LEDs are so intense and so focused that I can actually see blue circles on the sand.

Wow -- trained fish! You get them to pose beautifully! Clicker method?

:fish1:
Hah, I wish. I have two horses trained clicker style though, I never thought about trying to use it on fish, it would probably work for some basics.

As far as them being trained, they are far from it. I'm just patient and have a good zoom lens on my camera :) And you arent seeing all the pictures I "throw away" so to speak. If I keep 1 in 10 shots, that's a good ratio for me with fast moving fish like tangs.

Nice fish. The purple tang is beautiful.
Thanks. Wish I could take credit for designing it, but I'm just the photographer. I agree, I really like the purple tangs, one of my favorite.

I am in pure envy, very healthy and colorful fish, one camera that almost gives you the in-person look!
I think the fish are very healthy too. They've been treated with care and dare I say it love (now they will die once I've voiced it) and hopefully they are with me a long time into the future.

Beautiful photos, Recty! The queen is looking great.
Thanks! Hopefully she stays mellow, I'd like to be able to keep her in a community tank for a while longer.
