Dear Bolt696
We apologize for the problems you have experienced with the lobophyllia brain coral. This head of the coral appears to have been damaged and is losing tissue and deteriorating. The remaining portion of the coral does appear to be healthy, but still adapting to your tank conditions and lighting.
We would recommend placing the coral in an area of good water flow for the health and benefit of the specimen. The deteriorating branch or head of the coral will most likely not survive due to the apparent damage. As this portion of the coral continues to deteriorate, you will be left with a white skeleton, which can either be left or it can be removed. If left, it will eventually have coralline algae growth over it. If you prefer, you can remove this head with a pair of sturdy scissors, wire cutters, or bone cutters. It will be important that if you do remove this portion, to be very careful that you do not nick or damage any further portions of the coral.
We would recommend performing a water change and running some fresh activated carbon through your filtration system to prevent any water quality issues that may occur due to the deterioration of the coral. It can take several weeks for the remainder of the coral to fully adjust to your aquarium.
If you are unsatisfied with the health of this coral, we ask that you please contact us and we would be more than happy to assist you further. Please feel free to contact me personally at 1-800-334-3699, ext. 225.
Sincerely,
Leah B.
